Nowadays I found in this forum, lot of new comers want to earn quick money by trading. Traditional stock and share market always entertain investors. But the time is changing, so most of us are willing to earn money quickly. I wish to share the following text which I read recently. This may help us to understand the difference between investor and trader.
" Investing and trading are different strategies. The principal distinction is time. Investors hold their stock over months or years, whereas traders jump in and out of trades quickly - within, days, hours and even minutes. investors tend not to worry about short-term fluctuations or downturns, on the whole basing their investment decisions on how valuable they feel a company or market will be in the future. In contrast, traders don't need to worry about the long-term investment potential of the stock they hold, as they won't have it long enough for future worth to affect them. investors and traders look at different indicators to help them identify in which markets to place their money. Investors rely mostly on fundamental analysis - a method of creating financial forecasts using historical and current data. traders typically use charts to identify short-term patterns. for both, the general aim is always to 'buy low and sell high' but for investors it is even more important they buy stock very low, minimising their initial outlay and maximising profit over time. For traders, as long as the stock points rise, it doesn't really matter how low the initial purchase price was."
Awaiting comments from our members.
Thanks in advance.

If all are traders ....and if there are no investors no funds come in to the stock market and the market continue to decline, ..........as there is a fee deducted for all transactions. ... Sad

Thanks for this topic Smile
I only have less than 3 months experience in share market (which feels like 100 years to me)
Initially my aim was to gain something more than a fix deposit by investing in some good share & wait for long term

I have put some money

after 2 weeks time i realized that i have entered when the market is in down trend
luckily i only put 30% of my money & I didn't sold at a loss

Then I started collecting (little by little) the counters in my portfolio, which dropped more than 10%
& time to time I escaped 1 by 1 with very little profits by trading

Finally now I have,
~ 40% of two counters which I collected at 3.60-4.00 & 10.00-11.00 which I called long term investment
(These are initially I bought at higher price levels & lowered by trading)
~ 20% of five counters which I couldn't escaped & did not tried to average, which I called mid term.
~ 40% three counters for short term, which I can sell now with a good profit (but seeing today's market movement I'm still holding them & waiting...)

*so far I didn't applied for any IPO, But I traded those after buying lower levels..
*I didn't followed any rally.
*I have increased my portfolio 20% within this time period_many many thanks for all forum members who have shared valuable things...

so "WHO AM I?" "TRADER or AN INVESTOR?"
(Trader_sure,
Investor_may be I have to stay at least one year with the market to figure this out my self,
Gambler_no way for sure)

@ SAS,

This is my personal view.

If an investor reached his target within shorter period of time than he planned and sell his holdings still he is an investor.
