1) Go Cse.lk

2) Equity Market ( at the top)

3) Sector Wise Market Summary

When I fisrt started I had the same question . Somebody told me to check broker reports at investnow. But my broker did not send reports with sector PE.

Then I found this to be the easiest from the horses mouth.
So hope it helps you.

Just taken a screen shot www.cse.lk

Just look at the PER, which is as of 15 Feb 2011. Is it updated one? For example, if we look at the motor sector, it has performed extra ordinary in the recent past. But motor sector PER displays 75.Surprised As my undestanding only COLO is over 20 PER. Hence motor sector PER should be below 15. This may applicable to other sectors too.

Is this latest? Can any one verify please?

Monster,

I too think some of this PERs might be trailing and does not reflect the latest updated earnings. So we should be careful not to take it blindly.

@slstock, you are correct. If it is based on old data, they should mention some where. Otherwise this can be mislead the new investors. Evil or Very Mad

It is clear that CSE is giving tailing PE. However my concern is whether they are using last year, cumulative, or annualized EPS.

For example if current price is 150 and last year EPS is 8.

This year quarterly EPS are

q1-- 2
q2-- 3
q3-- 2.5

1. Last year EPS based
150/8= 18.75

2. Cumulative Method (Bllomberg use this method?)

150/(2+3+2.5)=20

or

3. Annualized Method

150/(2+3+2.5)/3*4=15

I suspect they use the first method, as CSE update EPS on a company's "trading summary" once a year (for some companies still last year EPS is showing, even without adjusting for splits, for example see SAMP ).

Therefore CSE reported sector PER may be in between the Bloomberg database and if one annualized year's accumulated earnings (assuming EPSs are growing).

Anyway need further studies to conclude above.
