I am clearing my PF...
by Tiger on Fri Aug 19, 2011 11:30 pm

I am clearing even my long term counters and moving to defensive stocks. The whole world is gearing for a global slowdown and SL may not be immune to that. Current market valuations are not up for value for money. How you read the market for 2011 second half and 2012?

Since I post above post on 19/8 I have disposed another 50% of my PF, and confined my self only to some stocks which has sound support levels. There by saved a good deal of money.

Rich in cash I am wondering what to do now, to enter to buying again or waiting little more.
What do you guys/ gals think? scratch

Save your money !! You did the right thing by moving into defensive stocks.I did the same. If you have to invest, stick to value stocks. I suggest NDB, NTB. among others.

Yes, VONE should do well in the future, should reach rs.40 in the short term, and could reach higher there after, especially due to diversity and with DP at the head.

I pray for those who are still holding there PF, but I will be entering hopefully below 6500 levels.

Yes there are some defensive stocks in the market, but I think this time most defensive would be to have cash in hand. I dont see any momentum in the market that is what worries most; no up ward or down ward momentum. Therefore taking defensive position is the safest at this time. Just see the foreign outflow 10Bn for 6 months, already post war prosperity has been discounted into most of the stocks, no clear signs of fast economic growth (present market has valued our present 8-9% growth). As far as I can see only hope would be govt. institutions pumping money to prop up market as they did with pressurizing SEC to relax credit rules. But for how long ETF, EPF and Insurance corp. can pump money to the market?

I could be horribly wrong in my opinion, please obtain professional advice before making your investment decision.

My PF now contains about 40% of its peak value in Feb.
Withdrew 30% & cash 20%. About 10% wiped off due to depreciation of prices in existing shares.
I sold most of my long term shares like EBCR, CFLB, CFIN, EDEN, DIMO, HAYC (at a loss) etc. In some cases it was not that easy to press the sell button. I know I wont be able to buy those shares for the prices I bought (except HAYC) but I'm quite pleased with all those decisions.

Some people believe this is an attractive market for foreigners. Nope it is NOT. Recently I entered to the FTSE100 as I could not believe some share prices on there. Seriously those are that much attractive. It's same in most top end markets. So its hard to imagine foreigners go to another country in large scale.

My only advice is WAIT..(which I have been telling for months..)

Ex: I really want to buy GLASS but still its not an attractive price for me.

Wildbear,
Yes same as in Sri Lankan there may be some counters trading at very high P/E. Who cares..!
Due to recent global financial turmoil & Libya case, the FTSE100 market went down significantly.
Since Libya issue is going well as wetern countries expected their shares also recovering well. If uncle Sam can sign a deal with China, the whole matured markets again will go up.

I just wanted to do some tradings & it was a very pleasant initial approach for me. Wink
