You have been shafted and you deserve it. Today's FT reveals that the combined net capital of all broker firms is 4.5 billion (ref: http://www.ft.lk/2011/08/25/brokers-scramble-for-new-capital/) so brokers can lend upto 4.5 billion to their clients, and many already have.

4.5 Billion is slightly less than the amount of money that was taken out of the system with the COMB rights issue.
That's about 1/3rd of the amount that HNB tried to raise via a rights issue (and failed).
4.5 Billion is about 2 Days worth of turnover.
It's less than half the amount that has been taken out of the market by foreign funds.
That's less than 0.02% of total market capitalization.

There were many, many people here saying that credit is not the issue. All those people were shouted down by
1) brokers masquerading as retail investors.
2) retail investors whose first post in the forums usually went like 'What is PE?', 'What is a rights issue?' but appear to have become CFA level 3 charter holders with in 6 months.
3) manipulators.

you see many such posts even today. In fact you wouldn't find any other post today.

small correction.
HNWI and organizations hold largest quantities of COMB,HNB. Most of the right issues has to be funded not with retailers money. They has to come from cash and margin accounts

man I took a long time to comprehend tubal's post. Smile

in the nutshell we do face a credit crisis.

BUT

Few weeks back CSE/SEC said, total unsettled credit at the beginning of the year was 8bn and now it has come down to 2Bn. Compared to that value 4.5Bn is a big value. Also, the unsettled 2bn must have been given out from that 4.5bn. So brokers can give 2.5Bn (4.5-2) more credit to investors.

I think that 2.5Bn is more than enough to use a stimulus to increase CSE performance and attract more funds.

4.5bn is quite a bit for sorting out T+5 situations. The rest of the money will have to come organically. The purpose of credit should be to create more market activity which in turn attract more capital.
