Market started off negatively and then thereafter swung between negative and positive ground throughout the day. Retail heavy counters were active in today’s trading although few bluechips such as John Keells, Carsons Cumberbatch and Nestle continued to slide slightly lower. Odel was the retailinvestor pick of the day with the counter gaining around Rs.5.10.

ASI gained 9.52 points (0.2%) to close at 4,883.88, MPI increased by 7.59 points (0.2%) to close at 4.289.41 and the S&P gained 1.07 points to close at 2.761.99. Turnover was Rs. 276 Million.

Most active counters for the day were Odel, HVA Foods and Swarnamahal Financial Services. Top contributors to turnover were John Keells Holdings with Rs. 30 million, DFCC with Rs. 24 million and Odel with Rs. 20million.

Notable gainers for the day were Odel up by 28% to close at Rs. 23.20, HVA Foods up by 8% to close at Rs. 13.60 and PCH Holdings up by 9.5% to close at Rs. 13.90. DFCC gained 4.5% to Rs.110 on relatively thin volumes to help prop up the indices.

Foreign participation was 11% of market turnover and net foreign buying was Rs. 22 million.
On the other hand, in today’s T-Bill auction, 3 month and 1 year rate edged slightly lower by 01 bps to 11.35% and 13.15% while 6 month rate declined by 06 bps to 12.85%.
