CEB Deputy Chairman Anura Wijeyalal said that as a result, they would have to depend on thermal power plants to supply the balance requirement of 85 percent.
Owing to the prevalent dry weather conditions, dependence on hydro electricity was previously reduced to 20 percent.
Nevertheless, Wijeyalal said that at present power generation is only at 90 percent of the total daily requirement.
The breakdown of the Lakwijaya Power Plant has been cited as the primary cause for the reduced electricity generation.
Anura Wijeyalal went on to note that in spite of the power cuts imposed by the CEB, only 7 percent of power generated is being saved.
