Gamini Senarath, who is the Chief of Staff at the presidential office, was appointed as the new Chairman of People’s Bank by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Finance Ministry said today.

Mr Karunajeewa was one of pioneer of SLFP student movement in Peradeniya University

He never use public funds for personal use

He also tried to protect public fund of Peoples Bank and tried to achieve
objectives of Hon Ilangaratne founder of Peoples Bank.

The newly appointed Chairman of People’s Bank, Mr. Gamini Senarath assumed duties at the Head Office of People’s Bank at an auspicious time on Thursday.

A senior officer in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, he is currently is the Chief Of Staff to the President.

An old boy of Richmond College, Galle who graduated from the University of Kelaniya, he also holds a Post Graduate Degree in Computer Science from the University of Colombo.

After graduating from the University of Kelaniya, he joined the Sri Lanka Administrative Service in 1984 as an Assistant Government Agent. Thereafter he served as an Assistant Controller and Deputy Controller of the Department of Immigration & Emigration. He also functioned as Senior Asst. Secretary to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and as the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic. He was a former Chairman of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation.

Mr. Senarath was appointed as the Chief of Staff to H.E. the President in 2009 after a successful tenure as the Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister and as Additional Secretary to the President. Apart from serving as the Chief of Staff to the President, he is also the Chairman of Litro Gas Lanka Company, Litro Gas Terminals Company and Sri Lanka Insurance Resorts & Spas. He has had extensive training abroad in various fields of Administration, Leadership and Management and has excellent foreign exposure in the related subjects and is also a reputed social activist.

There was a religious ceremony with participation of Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Christian clergy at the bank’s head office when Mr. Senerath assumed duties. The People’s Bank board and senior management led by DEO/GM N. Vasantha Kumar and bank staff were present on this occasion.
