Colombo equity market extended losses on Tuesday, where All share price index lost 22.44 points (-0.38%) and S&P SL 20 index fell by 1.14 points (-0.03%). Daily Market turnover was LKR 529mn. Commercial Bank emerged as the top contributor (LKR 251mn) for the session. Free Lanka Capital Holdings with LKR 27mn and PCH Holdings with LKR 26mn were the next best contributors to the market turnover. Apart from PC House Holdings, Touchwood Investments and Union Bank, textile related companies such as Kuruwita Textile Mills, Orient Garments and Textured Jersey attracted retail investor interest. Foreign participation was 29% where foreign investors were net sellers with a net outflow of LKR 202mn.
Colombo bourse regained ground on Wednesday with benchmark ASI recovering 0.47% (up by 27.88 points). S&P SL 20 Index gained marginally by 5.20 points (+0.16%). Daily market turnover was LKR 943mn. Dialog Axiata emerged as the top contributor to the daily turnover with an amount of LKR 512mn supported by several negotiated deals. Apart from that LOLC with LKR 191mn and PC House with LKR 31mn posted the next best turnover levels. Meanwhile, PC House, Touchwood Investments and Environmental Resources Investments witnessed heavy retail investor interest. Foreign participation for the day was 25% and foreign investors were net buyers with LKR 450mn.
Market continued to end in positive territory on Thursday making 2.6% return on main index for the month of October. ASI moved up by 20.21 points while S&P SL 20 Index improved by 16.25 points to end at 3,282.07. Daily market turnover was LKR 633mn. John Keells Holdings was the top contributor to the market turnover with LKR 179mn followed by Chevron Lubricants (LKR 86mn) and Lion Brewery (LKR 36mn). Further, Touchwood Investments, Lanka Century Investments and Textured Jersey were traded heavily during the day. Foreign participation for the day was 40% of the total market activity and net foreign buying was LKR 121mn.
Market finished for the week on a quiet note on Friday. A marginal decline of 0.26 points (-0.00%) in main index was seen due to the price depreciations in Carsons by 2.6% (closed at LKR 380.00), Bukit Dharah by 1.5% (closed at LKR 675.00) and Dialog Axiata by 1.1% (closed at LKR 9.00). Meanwhile S&P SL 20 Index declined by 1.74 points (-0.05%) to end at 3,280.33.
Daily market turnover was LKR 1.1bn. Lanka Tiles was the main contributor to the daily turnover with an amount of LKR 582mn where a total of ~6.5mn shares changed hands as 12 crossings at a price of LKR 80.00 per share. As per the disclosure made to the CSE, 5.1mn shares of TILE were sold by related parties of Dr.S.Selliah. Moreover Ceylinco Insurance (LKR 43mn) and John Keells Holdings (LKR 38mn) recorded the next best turnover levels during the day. Further a total of ~0.6mn shares of John Keells Holdings changed hands at LKR 225.00 per share.
Retail investors were actively participated in today’s trading in most of the small cap stocks such as Dankotuwa Porcelain, Ceylon & Foreign Trades, Softlogic Finance and Blue Diamonds which were traded heavily and closed with notable gains.
Net foreign buying was LKR 167mn and foreign participation accounted for 11% of the total market activity. Net inflows were seen in stocks such as John Keells Holdings (LKR 169mn), Aitken Spence (LKR 7mn) and Commercial Bank (LKR 4mn).
Cash map closed at 52%.
