Global markets are having volatility, sell off etc. But there are exceptions globally. Some stocks will have record demand in 2016/17.  For example some food stocks, tech and internet stocks including some Chinese internet stocks are looking promising. Some food stocks not only will become seasonal winners for 2016/17, but also winners for next five to ten years. All types of sell-off, correction or bear market will create great opportunity in those stocks.

Similarly Sri-Lankan market also will have great winners in any type of market.

Unlike those days, top research houses like to follow consumer staples (food companies) as well. Major uptrend for global food stocks is still intact.

If we analyse financial reports, Sri-Lankan market is also having some attractive food related stocks.

Global poultry food bull market is unstoppable now. Their markets are having volatility but their chicken and eggs stocks are having great demand.

I believe gradually investor interest should go towards massively undervalued Sri-Lankan poultry stocks as well. Both GRAN and TAFL have more growth now.

We can find either debt free or the lowest debt companies in the CSE from the poultry sector by next quarter. Other debt free or less debt food companies are NEST and SOY.

Sri-Lankan poultry stocks are also due for bull move now. We can see attractive earnings and positive outlook in food relates companies such as Nest, TAFL, SOY, GRAN and BFL etc.

When we add CCC and KFP, Sri-Lankan market has different types of food stocks. We have to study personality of stocks as well as their long term potential now.

Weak markets are good for some type of investors which include value investors although they will not time the market and will stick to value and future fundamentals.

There are few more.  We have to find out them and according to our strategy, experience and knowledge, we can pick stocks that we like and businesses we like.

I see unbelievable value opportunities in Sri-Lankan market now.

Currently, about 60 percent of the world’s population lives in the Asia-Pacific region. How about their increased middle class population and younger generation in the coming years? Almost all listed food manufacturing companies in Asia will benefit which include some locally grown well managed and foreign own listed companies in Sri-Lanka. They are some of the bright spots.

It is time to do some home work and put some food stocks in our shopping list as Asia come for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Investors have an opportunity to take part in the future growth of the food and agriculture industries. Asia pacific religion also will have opportunities among themselves.

Those who sell agriculture products, those who produce phosphate and potash crop nutrients, soup producers, grain producers, vegetable producers, fruit producers, meat producers, milk producers, fish producers, packaged food producers and other food producers all come under food category.

For me listed and non listed grain producers, milk producers, fish producers meat and egg producers, fruit and vegetable producers strictly can be categorized as food. Those are basis things and through out the history human beings have tasted above food.

Many positives discussed above comments.I have put some negatives to balance.

*Government price control affects chicken profit
*Chicken selling would be affected if Chickenkuniya or some regular desease found

Yes I agree chicken companise are good at current environment. But we should consider above limitations as well.

Thank you for different type of ideas.

Some consumer related industries will have very long term cycles while having temporary short term cycles in between in the coming 10 years in Asia.  Asian consumer boom is intact and long way to go.

It is time to keep under our shopping list companies which can create mid and long term shareholder value while producing beautiful balance sheets in the coming years. Some innovative managers and experienced mangers know how to take maximum benefit from various opportunities according to the market trend and to the situation. They are very keen on efficiency and productivity.

Food stocks are fast becoming as ideal type of stocks for all types of seasons or occasions including during period of uncertainty, volatility, sell off and bear market. Globally, they had demand during period of bull market and now they are having during period of selloff, uncertainty and volatility as well. Different types of panic including flue panic created great opportunities for food investors globally. Some are enjoying their 52 weeks high and 12 month high rewards now.  They will have more rewards during next 12 months. Globally, this category has more legs in their major uptrend.

There will be great demand for value stocks in 2016/17. We can find attractive food stocks in all types of markets such as developed, emerging and frontier markets which include Sri-Lanka: one of the top frontier markets in the world. Both Vietnam and Sri-Lanka two of the promising frontier markets in Asia.
