How accurate and reliable are the prediction reports that come out by broker firms?

Had a few people say most of them change and revise, but I have seen previous research reports TP have been reached.

Those that are old in the stock market, must know. Can you enlighten.

During the past 6 months mostly all brokers achieved their targets, because the market was recovering from a huge drop. But now it is at a high point and there are only a few shares which can move upwards and only if the shares have strong fundamental values. So now many so called experts will get called out for their bogus advice. So be aware and invest only in stocks which have value.

Don't buy stocks which have gone up 15 - 20% up in the past few days unless the future value is justifiable. The market will always go up and come down. But shares with value will have a good average growth in the mid to long term.

Several comments were seen recently questioning the recommendation (or so-called manipulations) on "Twitter/blog/youtube/word-of-month/rumor" and those officially published by Institutions (Broker firms and independent research firms). Individual advisors employed by broker firms can be placed in between.

Noticed that there is a considerable support base for either case. And I am more biased towards institutional research and recommendations while still reading/listening to others as well.

Though we can't rule out the possibility of research-based manipulations as well, the gravity of the same is much less than that of "Twitter/blog/youtube/word-of-month/rumor based manipulations", due to a number of reasons;

1. Research published by a reputed institution such as stockbrokers firm/independent research firm

2. Always included, numbers and assumptions considered in arriving whatever the recommendation made.

3. They track the stock under coverage and revise recommendations where necessary specifying the facts considered for such revision (new information available/change of assumptions etc.)

4. Is their targets/recommendations are missed quite frequently that indicates the quality of the research or research team and lose credibility of the institution (which lead their clients moving away ....loss of business)

However, the issue here is inadequate research done by broker firms opening an avenue for "Twitter/blog/youtube/word-of-month/rumor based manipulations"

Now, most investors use online platforms to execute transactions without much help from advisors appointed by the broker firms...but pays the same %of commission for each transaction. So, it is the broker firm's responsibility for producing research for at least 50% of stocks listed in CSE. (not 50% market capitalization)

As we investors need to put pressure on broker firms to do and publish more research and to cover at least 50% of companies listed in CSE.

That’s right. Research done by broker firms is wholly inadequate. Also each broker has too many clients to service so small investors don’t get any attention. Also stock brokers don’t educate investors on how to do any analysis. So it’s only natural that investors look upto social media to gain knowledge and advice on companies.
There’s a ton of international youtube channels as well which investors can follow to learn on how to analyze a stock. Only problem is most new investors prefer something in local language. So I believe we should encourage these channels and social media. Eventually investors will prefer to tune into channels which educate and give the research done to arrive at a target price than media which just randomly out target prices out there.

If anyone is interested in learning stock market strategies then you can follow Hamish Hodder on YouTube. He’s Australian and very easy to understand.

I prefer the method of teaching a man to catch his own fish rather than giving him a fish. Thus I prefer to learn from those who teach fundamental principles of stock picking over those who spoonfeed the audience to buy a stock.

So is it true when some say that Broker Firms publish TP to manipulate the market?
Have their been instances where TP have not been achieved and the complete opposite has happened?
Thank you for all the replies.

Lol. There are many international channels which are very helpful develop your skills and knowledge as a investor or trader. Eg
Investment; Hamlisch holder, new money, rule 1 investing
Trading; Adam Khoi, humbled trader
These are real professionals knowing what they are doing and many are millionaires themselves. There are 2 or 3 good professional channels in Sri Lanka but I don’t trust a person who tells he use his ‘secret method’ to analyse stocks. It looks more like stock manipulation to me.
