Hi Friends

I heard today a great good news, is an unofficial info. This may be rumor, I am not sure as i do not have a source to prove.

Ok i come to the news....

Central Bank revised the maximum limit to provide the Margin Trading facilities out of the total loan portfolio of licensed commercial banks, earlier this was restricted to 5% of the total loan portfolio, now this limit was relaxed.

This great news is expected to announce by next week.

So Friends don't be panic, Wait till Next week. In mean time, don"t buy based on this info, this may be rumor

This post just to share the info with u all, Don't make decision based on this.

Yes that's a good news,

But

Marginal Trading is not given to small investors who are having less than 1Mn portfolio.

What you say will increase ability of giving marginal facility, but the question, is will they give more marginal facility? especially to ones with less than 1mn pf.

I guess they're just legalizing the illegal stuff currently anyway going on.

According to CB sources, this has come on the back of the Securities & Exchange Commission learning that some banks are converting margin accounts of high networth individuals to overdraft facilities, which eventually acts just like a margin facility (to purchase shares) but is defined differently in order to work around the recent restrictions.

I should move some savings into government banks.

I think this is a good move market will bounce on the news. However if you are using margin facility be aware of the rate of interest. Banks are making a kill out of margin facilities with 100% assets backed.

is like this, present max limit 5% of the total bank portfolio, say Seylan Bank total loan portfolio is 100Mn, they can only provide the loans to margin trading 5Mn. Now they are going to relax % . Say the regulator relax to 10% bank can go up to 10Mn. so there can be more margin a/cs and present facilities will be extend based on exposure.

HNWI they are the people suffering these days. due to the market drop, their margins falls , to cover the margin they need to force sell. this is present situation

If u check with the banks, bank will say, the quota for the margin trading finished.

No cash inflow to mkt from HNWI and Foreign funds. this is real situation now. so regulator has to relax.

100% agree brother, but how we going to handle credit clearance matter again, Mad
ill prefer to let the market to hit it grounds until all credit over, then it will behave like a real credit free market,we dnt need HNWI with credit, then they are not HNWI,they are blood suckers of poor retailers......
we poor retailers put our hard earned money to the CSE,but those bugger HNWI come up with credit and steal our sweat....

they are are not HNWI,they are suckers/vampires Evil or Very Mad

bank margin credit big guys is good , broker credit to small investor is bad.
why is that ? bubbling can happen only from small investor credit?

Anyway it is a good move by the bank regulator .because banks are sitting on idling money .
this is the reality .no industry can survive without credit and risk takers.

But with active credit clearing dead lines i do not think a reversal of the trend is possible.

Anyway for the information of small investors , the capital trust is opening margin trading accounts for the account holders below one million.

Mostly this will apply for remaining broker credits which is scheduled to be cleared by the end of sept and dec., most of this credit is already in circulation, this will be mere regularization of credit by way of margin. Therefore please don't expect the market to bounce back and sustain that level though out the year. In the event that the markets recover make it the time to exit if your are suffering from distress already.

This is my personal opinion please obtain professional advice before making your investment decision.

One thing we have to keep in our mind, as retailers we can not do anything in the mkt, HNWI, Funds ( EPF ,SLIC) and Foreign investors are the players can carry the mkt, we can just follow them.

Best thing we can do, Watch the mkt trend

Entering into correct time to correct counter and exit @ correct time.

This news may take up the mkt up, so we have to use this opportunity to exit, I ( as a retailer) know everyone comes to CSE to get max gain, but present context we try to exit @ break-even.

So use the max opportunity and Switch our strategy as "Investor" ( at lease part of our portfolio) not " Trader"

Refer Antonym's Very good trimly Post.

Most of the members expressed their views to enter at correct time. major problem is how to know the correct time when all theories are not working in CSE.However according to my little knowledge there is no counter to enter safely at this time. Therefore best thing is to stop dealing of shares for sometime. But if most ppl stop or minimise share trading, demand will be further decreased causing a big fall in the indices. Then the situation would become bad to worst. Our PF value would come down further enhancing unrealised losses.

What SEC regulator can do to stabilize the market.

This is not a negative response pl. But I have little doubt on this untill they announce this by a circular.

Well IMHO this might be a good time to enter the market if you are an investor rather than if you are a trader. Lots of good shares are going at bargain price. Saying that I guess there are loads of overvalued counters also that should come down. I guess going through this forum you could identify extremely good stocks from the overvalued ones.

lokuayya, my dear lokuayya. You know how much they can do to stabilize the market. As someone stated in another thread SEC can do a lot to prevent a market crash(which is very close now). Every thing in a market economy is happened according the supply and demand.SEC can adopt policies to encourage supply or demand as and when it is necessary. If SEC is not performing well nobody bothered and market will run independently causing heavy loses to some of the investors/traders.

market reaction to the good news is some times in opposite way.

i thought sri lanka credit rating upgrade as a good news.
but Reuters news attribute this credit rating upgrade to the exit of foreigners today.it says foreigners transferred money to bond, bill.

rajramm,

that is the same thing that i want to highlight by asking "what they can can do?",.i think SEC should intervene , they can do lot to stop this fall.the increase of margin ceiling for banks is from the central bank.
someway SEC should do come out and do something
