ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka's forex reserves rose one by almost a billion rupees, to 7,706 million dollars by end August 2017 from 6.7 billion US dollars in July, data from the state debt office shows.
Sri Lanka's forex reserves are made up of monetary reserves collected by the central bank by dollar purchases and mopping up rupee liquidity that s created in the process, and also fiscal reserves which are kept as US dollars.
In August the central bank had bought about 200 million dollars from commercial banks, according to published data

Good sign of picking up the economy.

While our so-called local experts in this forum blaming the government for mishandling the economy, foreigners keep on collecting our valuable shares. They know very well within a short period ( may be 01 year or more ) our economy would accelerate its growth and everybody will feel it. The opposing politicians know this very well and they do everything to disrupt what is happening good for the country. The government has determined to go ahead with all the reforms and pass required new bills in the parliament to achieve this purpose which previous regimes reluctant to do due to politically disadvantage for them. Bitter pills have to be swallowed to cure your ailments.

Its true that the prices are high. But as a nation we should look at why our tea production is falling. YoY tea production has come down. Can we target to reach the production level that we had ten years back within the next five years..

By end of this year everyone could observe how economy is moving. It could be either positive or negative depending on ongoing policy decisions & its success of implementations.

This is the final challenge to the president & prime minister to be diverted the preferences given to their own political parties at the behest of the country. No success means country becomes upside down.
