This will not have an impact on LIOC profits. The government would reduce the duty on petroleum products.

Price of kerosene oil reduced by Rs. 20 per liter, petrol by Rs. five and diesel by Rs. three per liter from midnight tonight- President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Electricity traffics will be reduced by 25 per cent with effective from today, President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

This for the first time in Sri Lanka's history I heard the price of fuel coming down. It reeks of cheap populist measures a government makes just before an election they so badly want to win. If it's vote booster initiative, I fear what is to come just after the polls should be much worse Razz

I think this would affect profitability in some % for LioC. But by how much is the question.However since the Oil prices are down the cushion for comfort would be there for LIOC.It would have been a different story had the oil prices are up.

I am not familiar with their pricing for inventory, has anyone noticed how they value their inventory ? i need to dig in to their reports.

Usually they have some strategy to minimise the effect of oil price fluctuations in the market, thats how the famous hedging case came in. so one need to carefully study it.

just because the world oil price is low may not necessarily reflect in the immediate quarterly results.

So one should weigh all probabilities Very Happy

hydropower/wind/solar sector will not be affected. because it is covered by long term power purchase agreements . diesel sector and lioc may have some side effects . temporary only.

I stated this, generally for the sectorwise. basically, for Lioc and Lgl. However, as said by Schemer, other electricity generation companies have long term agreement, and the electricity they generate is purchased by the government, so this will not affect their profitability. So, you'll have to understand their nature of their businesses...

Yes Shark you are right, Oil markets always work on futures, I am also not sure when will the current low price of Oil will benefit LIOC.

There will be a definite impact but when is the question and depends on how the futures work on Oil markets.

Any crude oil expert out there in the forum who can shed some light on this ? We need ti know turn around time of the crude oil to retail market Rolling Eyes
