ASPI Marks New All-Time Record at CSE 1610970511579?e=1613606400&v=beta&t=_bgWb_jkY7kQtPhnBHxoqWjjKzjqLU5CMYRDJEOWwKU

CSE’s ASPI reached its all-time high index tally today closing the 10th trading day of 2021 on 7922.66 points. The previous highest points figure recorded was 7811.80 points on 14 February 2011. The ASPI gained 188.09 points today recording the eighth highest points gain in CSE’s 35 year history.

The positive investor sentiment could see the ASPI surpass 10,000 points in the not too distant future.

Given that the DecQ will be most positive do you think it is realistic to expect 10,000 by end February & 12,000 by March end. Thank You.

Kipling,
In 10 trading days in January the ASPI appreciated by 1000 points. Given the present positive investor sentiment it seems anything is possible, of course with intermittent market corrections.

I will not rule out 10,000 by end March but it could exceed that. GL

Brother ! ,
I think by December 2021, ASPI will be more than 20,000 , Nobody can ask our ASPI and our pure racial supremacy over other minority nonsense

If this momentum continues its possible. The key supporting factor is the low market PER of around 13.

Thank You Samaritan.
The PE of 13 is trailing & with earnings growing minimum of 25-30% most investors will base decisions on Forward PE.

Last 9 years were drifted and come back.
Look at Dow 10 yrs ago 8000 now 31,000 up almost 300%.
BSE Sensex 10 yrs back 9300 now 49,000 up 425%.
Now is our turn for CSE to go 2-300% from here to ASPI 35,000
In next 2-3 years.

Note:
IB has 35 years experience investing in the share market in CSE and overseas markets.

In my view this will happen much earlier than expected.

Will we break 9,000 tomorrow & 10,000 first week of February. Thank you.
Kipling,
I am very confident that ASI will break 9,000 tomorrow & 10,000 in February given the positive investor sentiment and encouraging reports published by Colombo based Ceylon Asset Management posted by @Swissinvest in a different thread and Bloomberg.

Some salient features of the articles are as follows:

  • Sri Lanka equities emerged world’s best performing stock market in 2021 YTD
  • Global equity interest in Emerging Markets expected to trickle down to CSE
  • Global Negativity offers “contrarian” profit opportunity on Sri Lanka Sovereign Bonds
  • New ECT terms with a FDI of USD 500Mn favourable for Sri Lanka
  • Return of Pension funds to the CSE at prevailing valuations imperative
  • UBS has upgraded emerging market equities to the most preferred global asset class

Despite global negativity, the CSE has emerged the best performing stock market in the world as of 19th January 2021 due to local positivity. Analysts expect global equity market growth to move away from the US to favour the rest of the world. The capital flow into Emerging Markets can also be expected to flow into Frontier Markets while SL has the potential to outperform other frontier equity markets during 2021 since it is trading at attractive valuations, as per the latest Economic & Market Outlook report of the Colombo-based Ceylon Asset Management (CAM).
