The government is considering a proposal to appoint the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Dr. P.B. Jayasundara as Deputy Minister of Finance, according to the repot.
The proposal is under consideration since the Minister of Finance, President Mahinda Rajapaksa is too busy to answer the questions raised in the parliament and the need has arisen for the presence of a responsible financial expert in parliament to answer the questions raised by legislators.
If the proposal will be approved, Jayasundara will be appointed to the parliament through the national list.
Recently, the Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa also showed the need of summoning the Secretary to answer the questions raised in the parliament, since responses to questions raised by opposition parliamentarians from the Ministry were delayed.
United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake has said that only five out of 66 questions posed by him to the Finance Ministry have received responses.
