Apr 11, Colombo: A delegation comprising the members of European Union has arrived in Sri Lanka Monday to review the current situation in the island nation ahead of a meeting scheduled in Brussels on re-granting GSP+ facility, the state-run radio SLBC reported.
Reportedly a special discussion on granting the European Union's Generalized Scheme of Preferences, Plus known as GSP+ facility will be held in Brussels on 19th April.
The EU delegation will study the present situation in Sri Lanka including the development, reconciliation and political stability. Thereafter, the delegation will present a report on its observations during the discussion in Brussels.
The European Commission in January proposed that the GSP+ should be granted to Sri Lanka once again after withdrawing it in 2010 due to the poor human rights record of the country. The European Parliament and the Council have now until May to raise potential objections before the measure becomes effective.
The EU is Sri Lanka's biggest export market accounting for nearly one-third of Sri Lanka's global exports.

I do not understand why people are not interesting to buy TJL/MGT at their lowest price before the announcement . im damn sure when EU out the news people will try to grab the share 2 rs. high. Y we doing this foolishness all the time.

Monetary effect will commence to flow with the passage of time but not really based on announcement. Let us see the final outcome & how it will exercise physically. Investors become intensively prudent before opening the wallet.

There were news reports tat a crucial meeting of the EU would take place on the 19th April 2017 I wonder what the outcome of this meeting was.

Various newspapers have been publishing conflicting reports on the grant of GSP Plus we do not know which information is authentic

It is deplorable to say propaganda aired on events are highly politicized. Medias are heavily representing to support leading political parties disrespecting the ethical code.
Eventually public is deprived of having correct information expected from agencies.

52 members of the European Parliament have addressed a petition for the denial of GSP Plus to Sri LANKA stating that Sri Lanka have failed to fulfil the requirements stipulated by the EU I presume that this has the support of the ELAM diaspora based in UK and Europe.
For the petition to succeed they would need the support of 376 members whivh is equivalent to 51%.
The Sri Lankan Foregn ministry Exporter Associations and other concerned organizations should actively lobby against this petition as there is hardly any time left between now and mid May 2017 when the \vote IS taken up at the European Parliament
