Brokers said that overall sentiment was low with JKH and Dialog, both of which closed flat, generating the highest business volumes for the day.
``The market was sightly up during early trading and then began to slide with the downward trend gathering momentum after 2 p.m.,’’ a broker said. ``Overall sentiment was low.’’
JKH saw 326,000 shares done between Rs.174.60 and Rs.177 to generate the day’s highest turnover of over Rs.60 million while Dialog with nearly 7.3 million shares done between Rs.7.70 and Rs.8 closed flat at Rs.7.90 contributing Rs.56.6 million to turnover.
Other counters that contributed to business volumes included Serendib Hotels with nearly 1.3 million shares done and Orient Garments with slightly over a million shares traded. Serendib closed Rs.1.50 up at Rs.31 and Orient Rs.1.60 up at Rs.37.10.
DFCC Bank was down Rs.2.30 to close at Rs.110 on over 0.3 million shares done between Rs.110 and Rs.113 while CIC closed flat at Rs.114 on slightly over 0.2 million shares and Kandy Hotels where a share split was announced the previous day gained Rs.81.80 to close at Rs.287 on 77,00 shares.
Kandy Hotels will seek shareholder approval at a general meeting to sub-divide each of its shares to 35 increasing the number of shares from 16.5 million to 577.5 million.
On’ally Holdilngs announced an interim dividend of Re.1 per share for 2011/12 XD from Dec. 2 and payment on Dec. 13 while Asia Capital announced an interim dividend of Rs.6.95 per share for 2011/12 XD from Dec. 2 and payment on Dec. 13.
