Most of us like to see more foreign investment in CSE.Actually there was a reason campaign in Singpore/Malaysia and there is a brokers' suggestion to President on this matter.
But will it benefit us longtermly ? Does anyone know total cash inflow and outflow from foreigners in CSE ?
I guess outflow is much larger than inflow. So ultimately we have lost our money.

Comments are appreciated.

The bourse saw a net foreign outflow of 49.5 million rupees on Friday, and thus far in 2011, offshore investors have sold 17.8 billion, and a record 26.4 billion in 2010
From http://www.ft.lk/2011/12/03/stock-market-down-after-rally-on-profit-taking/
I think this is net outflow. In 2009 11.4 billion.

I heard that in USA big established banks which pay good dividends are going at single digit PE ratios. Compare that to local banks going at 15 - 20.

We locals (specially through our pension fund) pay 2X, 3X,... the fair value and buy these expensive shares. For foreigners it's like a cash tree. When they want money they just sell some leaves to locals.

There are two things that can be done

change of policy ..making favorable business environment or
bring down the market artificially Or by force to attract foreign investors

If you compare the data of doing business in Singapore and Malaysia we have lot to do

Singapore rank no 1 in 2011 and 2012 http://www.doingbusiness.org/data/exploreeconomies/singapore/

Malaysia rank 23 in 2011 and 18 in 2012
http://www.doingbusiness.org/data/exploreeconomies/malaysia/

Sri Lanka rank 98 in 2011 and 89 in 2012
http://www.doingbusiness.org/data/exploreeconomies/sri-lanka/

We have improved but question is it enough to increase the GDP to USD 4000 by 2016

or

Simply can we realize the big dream ......... Miracle of Asia

Making favourable business environment - YES -
BUT Is it really worthwhile to bring down the market to attract foreigners ? Because when market is down foreigners invest and when it goes up they will sell with huge profit as a result of which money get flow out of our country,Is it beneficial ?

Bring the market down artificially or by force? Surely there is no need for that. All that needed to be done was to stop propping up the market artificially. And we are still doing it. The longer you prop up the harder it's going to fall when ti eventually happens.

Why foreigners should NOT invest in CSE?

1.ILLIQUIDITY
2.POLITICAL INTERFERENCE
3.LOSS OF CONFIDENCE
4.NO TRANSPARENCY
5.HIGH DEGREE OF UN EDUCATIONAL CROWD
6.UNREST

list goes on.............

can a TRILLIONAIRE invest in CSE?.......if he buys, who will buy from him?
