* Days of making easy money over
December 13, 2011, 9:50 pm

Sri Lankan investors in the Colombo Stock Exchange should not worry about market manipulators but develop their own trading plan and system, Bartleet Religare Securities said.

"Markets (Human emotions) love to blame everyone else for their losses and wrong doings. The markets favourite villain is the so called ‘Manipulator clique’ that were present in the markets a few months ago.
During the boom of 2009 – 2010 these ‘cliques’ helped the market generate enormous returns and everybody was happy and there was no blame. When those very ‘cliques’ started to unload stocks they were blamed for ruining everything.

"At present as the ‘cliques’ seem to have disappeared from the market, they are blamed again," the brokering firm said in a recent report earlier this week.

"Sri Lanka should realize that the so called manipulator in the market is responsible for the movement and without them there would not be a stock market to trade in. The market needs them and the markets must learn not to blame them.

"Investors do not need to worry about them but learn to develop their own trading plan and system for trading. The days of easy money are over its time to work hard for your money.

"Technically the market seems to be heading down towards 5,800 and traders should keep a close eye on their positions and ensure that they are not risking too much in the hope of the anticipated rally," Bartleet Religare said.

"Bartleet Religare Securities" member of the Colombo Stock Exchange which is a member of the International Federation of Stock Exchanges says market manipulation is OK and they need market manipulators.

personally I have very little or no respect towards these broker huts.

However there is a great truth behind this bartleet comment.

But they should have told it in a different way. I dont think any of the broker huts can say "CSE needs manipulators". I seriously would like to think the newspaper reporter done a mistake in this title.

So the 2009, 2010 boom was not because of the end of the war, growth of the country. It was because of the manipulators pumping up the market?
When somebody sells at manipulated price for profit somebody has to buy. So who are the losers?

What's wrong with the current market? It hasn't crashed or anything. Just because some big players and retailers are stuck with expensive shares or junk doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the share market. What is wrong with it, is the all expecting impossible massive profits. Markets go up for years. Market goes down for years. That's the nature.

@ ai, whenever someone sells at a price for profit somebody has to buy. It is not a matter of manipulation. We have to be tactful not to get caught.

@aj. this traditional way of investing is not suitable for the CSE. We should be ale to get profits whether it is manipulated or not. we have to be really smart.

But Appuhamy who is the loser? The foreign funds? Big investors? No sir. It's your poor people and your pension fund. You cannot says it's there decision. That's why you have SEC, Police, CID. Catching the crooks is their business. It's a never ending thing. But as a civilized society we try to catch the crooks.
Just because drug business is a lucrative market doesn't mean we should allow that. Do we?

As a day trader I have taken good profits from both manipulated and non-manipulated counters. I had never got caught. It depends on your ability and experience. Otherwise I would have suffered throughout our investment life blaming others who really successful in CSE.

After the war or during the war everyone knew how much money came in and went out from the country.
Black made as white.
Pump and dump helped every aspect.
Couldn't understand then we are lacking common sense.

There's nothing wrong with the stock market. It's trying to adjust its share prices to what it's really worth.
