Since middle of the year share prices were coming down while indexes were dragging down to somewhat attractive levels.
Some people were prudent enough to identify , proactive and disposed their stakes partly or a major percentage at the beginning itself. They are lucky winners.
While its run on the middle , some people really understanding the way , where it is heading towards ,sold either part of their portfolio or full.
Some were very optimistic and thinking it would see the upward movement , they hold ,hold their portfolios up to date.I think most of us are in that category.
We have been getting upset looking at indexes and our red portfolios , waiting to sell and realize some capital gain which might above FD rates.

Since market in a crucial period , we trend to think whether it is the right time to average our portfolios ,
Whether we don't look at prices and keep it as a mid to long term investment.(Even If we have purchased under credit facilities ).
If we are to experience (in near future ) a upward trend due to some expected reasons , clear our portfolios with very tiny capital gains (with a minimum loss ).
Or the worst part , that market may come down further by a reasonable points ,therefore exit the market with a loss even , because it may take more than 6-9 months to recover the market to a fair level.

What do you think .Do you have a different plan ?

The major factor for down trend market is extreme low level of invester confidence created by SEC and bad government policies. As long as those factors are there sustain up trend is impossible.we have seen few attempts of upward trends, always erased by huge selling pressure due to uncertinity.

Stock market shot up 300 - 400% over that last 3 years, now it has to match the core business performance. Which is not so good. Blame the directors.

I think people don't know that the symbols like JKH, RICH represent real companies in Sri Lanka run by real people. They are not like the symbols printed on slot machines people are used to.

Yelling at the SEC is like blaming the police when they stop you for speeding at 120mph when you want to go somewhere in a hurry. It's for your and everybody's safety.

My stratergy is to collect undervalued fundamentally reliable shares with good growth potential using my own money and keep it for mid to long term without worrying price fluctuations in near future.Remember that, this does not mean that I will not catch the profitable oppurtunities in near future.

As Tubal said the other day the "panic sellers" are the real winners of the CSE at present not the brave people who hold them tightly!

Look at the prospect of Sri Lanka in the next 5 to 10 years and then make an investment decision. Look at companies which will benefit from any growth. For example the construction industry will benefit without doubt. RCL will have more demand for tiles/ ceramics/ paints/ etc.. Tokyo for cement etc... Just look at the long term in other words..

This is the stock market, its about Green and Red. We cant have both.

Cheers!

Correct, simply look at the prospects. But buy many more of them later.

Now it's 3 years after the war. Did anything massive happen in those companies all these years? It's always tomorrow not now.

Agreed.
Plus there is another thread in this forum, which also can be related to this topic.

I was there in the old investment forum. I remember people were always ++very optimistic++. Tourist arrival, building hotels, economy growth, GDP growth, in the future massive profits... always in the future. I think almost all the listed companies are growing as just as much as they were growing before the war as in around 2007.

This is only my view, not a recommendation.
There will be some positive news in near future which will up the market for few days, mainly the speculative shares.ASI will up without backing of MPI.It will not persist unless government reassure the invester confidence and bringing investers, not traders to the market who can push the bluechips up,hence the MPI.
My stratergy is buy fundamentaly good shares which can have rally time to time.At the moment I don't have a single share on my PF.If you buy now can easily exit with good profit in next market up,as I did in last time.
