He says, under the new strategy only one authorized person will speak to media from the SEC in the future.
According to Karunaratne, in the past, the regulatory body has been getting unnecessary publicity through the media, which he says is not required for the SEC.
The SEC Chairman points out that in future, only the Assistant Director of External Relations and Market Development of SEC will be authorized to speak to the media.
“He will be given the freedom to talk to the media”, added Karunaratne.
The SEC Chief believes this strategy will also avoid room for confusion and disagreements.
In previous administrations of the SEC, Chairman and the Director General, both directly spoke to the media.
However, Karunaratne says, this time around the Chairman will only speak to the media, if it is absolutely necessary. news360
