Current market price is the last traded price. You could find this information from any public domain.

If you want to find the market value of a share there are many ways.

Most frequently used method are PE Basis (Price Earnings Multiples) and PBV Basis (Price to Book Value)

You can also use Net Asset Value (NAV) and discounted cash-flow of companies to determine valuation (DCF).

Sometime companies are valued on the basis of future dividends using dividend growth models, but this is not frequently used.

Businesses are also valued on the basis of Enterprise Value. Enterprise value of a business is calculated as follows.

Total market value of the Equity + Total Borrowings - Cash

Hope this helps.

PE Based Valuation
Price Earnings Ratio = Share Price / Earnings Per Share
Value of a Share based on PER valuation = (EPS) X (Market PER or Sector PER)

PBV Valuation
PBV = Price/Book Value(BV)
Value of a share based on PBV Valuation = (BV) X (Market PBV or Sector PBV)

Net Asset Value
NAV = Total assets - Total Liabilities

On the Cse.lk select the Equity Market and then select the Sector wise market summary there you could find the sector wise PE.

Using PE ratio alone is a rule-of-thumb to determine value of a shares. In addition to that size (market capitalization), book-to-market, and market factor are also found to be explanatory variables of a stock's return.

If you use PE ratio alone, use foretasted (leading) PE ratio rather past (tailing) PE ratio. Because it can be proven mathematically that leading PE ratio is representative of one dividend based share valuation model called Gordon Model.

what EPS should we take into considertaion ?
Group EPS or Company EPS ?

i have seen some analysis sheets by brokers for some companies they have used group EPS some the company EPS.

Please advice

IMHO, if the group has un-related associates and subsidiaries then you have to analyze them separately (as they may have different PE ratios) to arrive at representative PER for reported group EPS. Thus using group EPS and parent company's sector PER is misleading.

But the general case is, a group has many related sector associates and subsidiaries. So using group EPS is generally okay.

Any other opinion?

Book value is the net asset value.

Download the latest financial statement of the company you are interested and there you find it.

Net asset value is expressed per share.

Also you can calculate it.

= (Equity attributable to the parent)/(Total number of shares)
