Sri Lanka is among eleven countries which may be subjected to American financial sanctions for failing to cut on oil imports from Iran, Russia Today newspaper revealed.

The US State Department has revealed the list of 12 countries including Sri Lanka. The number of countries was mentioned earlier on Tuesday, as Washington announced a penalty waiver for Japan and 10 EU counties which complied with American demands and reduced their purchases. However, the names of the countries were not given.

Four of the countries on America’s anger list are among top 100 buyers of Iranian crude. They are China, India, South Korea and South Africa, with the first two being the two largest buyers.

Also targeted by possible financial sanctions are Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Turkey.

Are there any brave (foolish) hearts who will continue to expand their portfolios ? For sure there will be .......

It is clear that this man is doing a contract of someone’s. If he talks about facts and figures and effect of something it has to be put forward in a professional manner. He tried his best to de-motivate people before the UNHRC meeting. Now hanging on something else! What right he has to call others as fools to achieve his petty political ideas.
Those who know about this man come forward and reveal him and his hidden agenda. If he does not want to invest why he is bother about the market and spends his time on the forum?

OK, this is definitely pushing it too much Smile I used to respect views of illuminati because they made sense at some point. But now it seems he has some other motivations for being negative (note: this is different from being bearish with reasonable arguments). Sanctions are very much far away, I don't think there's any need to be concerned about them at this point.

The news article is valid (I've seen the same somewhere else), but the way illuminati has put it forward is as if he's sure there's going to be sanctions - which is rubbish IMHO.

Moral: Be very careful about people who push / promote ANYTHING!

Cheers!

Oil imports: US gives concessions to Lanka

No total ban on supplies from Iran, only 15% reduction says Petroleum Minister
Hard on the heels of the US sponsored resolution at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva this week, Sri Lanka has gained a concession from the US on restrictions imposed on fuel imports from Iran.

United States, which imposed sanctions on Iran, has asked Sri Lanka to scale down crude oil imports from Iran for the current year only by 15 per cent, a senior Minister said yesterday.

Petroleum Industries Minister, Susil Premajayantha said such a reduction meant Sri Lanka would not face a total ban immediately. Earlier, a total ban was expected to come into force from June this year fuelling fears that the country may face a serious fuel crisis.

“The concession to reduce crude oil imports only by 15 per cent was a result of the appeal made to the US earlier,” Minister Premajayantha said. Sri Lanka imports as much as 93 per cent of its annual crude oil requirements from Iran.

A spokesman for the US embassy in Colombo said, “The US is in active discussions with the Government of Sri Lanka about the plans to reduce imports of Iranian crude oil,” but did not elaborate on the concession reported to be given.

Mr. Premajayantha said the government was now looking for other sources to obtain the balance 15 per cent of supplies. Talks were underway with Saudi Arabia and Oman for this purpose.

This week the Oman Oil Company (OOC) and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) signed a memorandum of understanding in energy related activities during a visit to Colombo by an Omani delegation. The delegation also met Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa and Treasury Secretary P.B. Jayasundara, Minister Premajayantha said.

This will be followed by a top level technical delegation from Sri Lanka visiting Oman next week to look at the feasibility of importing crude oil, the quantities as well as to work out other modalities before entering into any buying agreement, he said.

“We have only signed an MoU with Oman. The government is also exploring the possibility of reducing the supply from Iran and to increase the supply from Saudi Arabia and Oman,” he added. Meanwhile the CPC has also entered into another agreement with Vietnam’s Viet Petrol Co. Ltd to buy refined petroleum from that country.

War-torn Iraq also has offered to supply fuel to Sri Lanka. Dr. Jayasundera told journalists in Colombo on Thursday, during a rare briefing, that the oil import bill had risen to US$ 4to 5 billion from US$ 2 to 3 billion and the recent domestic fuel price increase was aimed at removing long standing structural distortions. "With the adjusted prices the losses of the CPC have been brought down to around Rs.60 billion from Rs. 200 billion,” he noted.

Dear illuminati, this is a few days old article originally appeared in a lesser known paper. Please read the latest announcements from USA and Sri Lankan government announcements. Both very clearly indicated US has given us a concessions of more than we expected. Further they have removed all embargos imposed on us companies with regards to exportation of weapons and defense systems.

illuminati, I have noted all your articles are on negative side. I am not always positive. But I noted all your articles are on the negative side.

If you are so certain on possible bearish move why don't you say it in a professional way with facts, technicals and other evidence. No one will criticise that but would join the healthy discussion. Normally, the massenger gets killed when the massage is conveyed in an ir-rational way. There is a way to breake the bad news.

You are absolutely right. I think you can remember some TA experts made highly irresponsible statements and said ASI will fall to even 3500 level. That is equel to 2010 January level. But I made several posts against this view and only very few members supported me . But with all unexpected chalenges we met still ASI is hanging around 5400. TA is useful instrument to use for taking decissions in stock trading. But here mostly use it for personal interests.

Illuminati,

As the market is so fragile still with less retailer confidence any panic can lead down the way you suggest. But the issues I see in your statements are so much negativity without any facts to back up and with disregards to any present positive development. As you know things can change from time to time. So my request to you wojld be present your ideas with some backing so people can understand you more. Right now inducing so much negativity and telling everyone to sell will eventually crash the market as you desire. Some peple were so much talking about a bull on certajn shares and we saw it happen. Your saying is opposite behaviour. I asked you in another thread whether yoh have faith in any share at cse?

Look I am not disregarding your opinion you say so much. But if you are to be balanced with positive and negative facts ( even if you are negative) then your vision will make more sense.
