So what was the reason for ASI going up suddenly?

Rapaport

Turnover still rolling up!

Last week volume (Total 5 days) 74,443,125
Today volume so far 60,132,218

Cheers!

@aj: I was asking myself the same question... what did change in the last couple of days???

Another related question is, does a bull run start only after such a "change"? Or is it that a bull run starts in anticipation of a change?

I'm too new to answer these questions, may be someone else can Smile

Cheers!

There weren't many or any crossing much. But today we have COMB, TJL and DAIL. That's why.

It doesn't usually happen after the change. But what anticipated change of circumstances can we see? Did Sri Lanka lose a proposal at the UN council today for this much green? lol!

Well, to be fair, the market was undervalued. But I can't exactly see what's the "trigger" factor here...

Anyway, I guess this justifies me booking some profits... (however small it may be). This was too radical of a bull run for me.

Still, we can't be 100% sure if this was a fake or a true bull run. We'll have to wait and see.

Cheers!

yes tomorrow again . the people who cashed in today will join the run if the morning session is good. then it would start a good run. else if people panic again.it will soon come down to 4700 levels

What is happening and happened and going to happen are part and parcel of the share trading.
Nothing to worry mate, those who bought in the peak needs to wait, posting positive posts pushing innocent new comers won't help at this point.

I guess P.B Jayasundra’s appointment triggered this upward trend. Or at least one of the main reasons.

I believe he’s better than most of the members in cabinet. But you know most often people tend to go with the flow rather change things in such high government positions. Let’s hope it will not happen this time. Neutral

I have made post about possible uptrend.

One reason most of investors anxious about US embargo due to Iranian oil purchase
Now it has cleared.
Also Central Bank has announced no change of policy rate next month.
Gesture of EU economical stability ( Not over but not precarious as looks before)
Also less noise of politically useless idiots who is barks to US or western for satisfied maroons.
Sign of few capable professionals going to be appoints to the cabinet.

This Bloomberg data is fascinating.
Many people think CSE is small, highly manipulated and can not be predicted.
But the big picture is totally different.
What we believed as "post war economic boom" is not really the post war boom.
People cashing in on the smallest profits and here goes the ASI down down down!! Mw_04-10
There wasn't a war in India, Pakistan and Indonesia.
But the similarity in the graphs are clearly visible.

(By the way, It is stupid to think bad about taking a small profit.
No matter how small, it is still a profit.
People are here to make money, not for charity.
One can not blame others for taking a profit.)

War finished in 2009. Now government's job to stabilize things. Either we have to narrow down trading deficit orgo to a ultimate crash

@Dileepa: OK, that's weird. I didn't have clue about such a pattern.

So, I guess at some point foreign investors found all asian markets to be interesting... and then this created the parallel boom...

Btw, is there a leading stock market in the pattern? Because, if we can find out that indian stock market (as an example) always leads the bear / bull rallies, may be we can stay a bit ahead of the game in CSE... Wink

Cheers!

It is best to follow MSCI FM & EM indices to figure out pattern.
FYI :
Frontier Market Asia index covers Bangladesh, Pakistan, SL & Vietnam
http://www.msci.com/products/indices/country_and_regional/fm/
Emerging Market Asia covers India, Indonesia, China, etc
http://www.msci.com/products/indices/country_and_regional/em/
You can combine regions/countries and generate your own graph here:
http://www.mscibarra.com/products/indices/performance/country_chart.html?priceLevel=0&scope=C&style=C&asOf=Jun%2015,%202012¤cy=15&size=30&indexId=1987#

Attached file contain EM ASIA, INDIA, INDONESIA & SRI LANKA index data from 1992-2012.
It is the up to date version of above graph.

After that sharp dip due to so called global economic crisis all the market has recovered. But in the percentage wise(as this is in log scale) CSE is clearly in front.....I think reason for that is post war boom.
