53 year old Fernando is a career banker with 27 years of experience with HSBC, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Hong-Kong.
During his stint with the global bank, Fernando has served in senior managerial positions in corporate banking, trade finance, retail banking and operations.
He has been the Chief Operating Officer of HSBC Sri Lanka from 2005 – 2007 and Chief Technology and Services Officer of HSBC Sri Lanka from 2007 to 2010.
Fernando has also served as the Regional Head of change delivery in HSBC Asia Pacific, where he had to base himself in Hong kong.
The veteran banker is a B Sc Engineering degree holder from the Southern Illinois University, USA and M Sc in Management from Clemson University, South Carolina, USA.
The new Deputy CEO of DFCC bank is also a former national tennis champion, a gold medalist at the SAF Games in 1991 and has been the captain of the Sri Lanka Davis Cup team from 1983 – 1990.
