Aug 24, 2012 (LBT) - Bourse witnessed a day of profit taking in both retail and fundamentally strong counters which inturn resulted in both the indices closing the week in red. Overall the week showed positive sentiments as foreigners continued to pick fundamentally strong counters which are trading at a discount. The benchmark index gained 25.31 points to close at 5,012 whilst the more liquid MPI shed 56.29 points to close at 4,636. Total turnover for the day was over 265mn. (Approximately USD 2 million) Total volume traded was over 8.9K.

Market heavyweight JKH saw the only block trade during the day as 357,990 shares change hands at Rs.195. The counter contributed over 28% of the day’s turnover and closed at Rs.195.20 shedding 2.01%. Activity was also seen on fundamentally strong caps such as DIST and COMB. Distilleries witnessed a healthy volume of over 214,000 shares trade between Rs.118.20 and Rs.120.30 and went onto close at Rs.119.60 shedding marginally. COMB continued to be the most sought after banking sector cap and closed at Rs.102.80 trading over 213,000 shares.

CIC and CINS also traded attractive volumes and contributed material amounts to the day’s tally. DOCK also witnessed renewed interest as small parcels traded at Rs.190. HNB.X and VONE also witnessed high net worth interest to trade attractive volumes. Retailers main focus was towards booking profits during the day although renewed interest was seen on caps in the power sector. Caps such as HPFL,VPEL and VLL all went on to close the week on a positive note gaining 6.45%,2.08% and 2.78% respectively. Retail favourites HVA,LOFC,LGL.X and EAST continued to witness profit taking and closed in red. Further, caps such as BIL,PAP and TESS topped retail trading volumes whilst SEMB.X emerged as the top gainer.
