Aug 28, 2012 (LBT) - Bourse continued it’s positive momentum and extended its stay in the green territory owing to a strategic deal in one of the diversified sector heavyweights coupled with active high net worth and retail participation. The benchmark index gained 29.55 points to close at 5,102 whilst the more liquid MPI also gained 29.52 points to close at 4,753. Total turnover for the day was over 3,07bn. (Approximately USD 23.3 million) Total volume traded was over 60.4K.

Turnover was boosted mainly by a strategic transaction on heavyweight SPEN where a stake of over 5.8% (23,122,000 shares) changed hands at Rs.110. The counter pumped in a massive 2.5bn towards the day’s turnover and contributed 83% of the day’s total turnover. The counter closed the day at Rs.111.50 gaining 0.45% for the day. Banking & Finance sector cap DFCC also traded attractive quantities in the market and closed at Rs.117.10 contributing a healthy 34mn towards the day’s turnover. DIST also witnessed a parcel of 200,000 shares change hands at Rs.120. The counter gained 3.36% to close the day at Rs.122.30.

High net worth and Institutional activity was also evident during the day as cautious accumulation was seen on specific counters. COMB dragged high net worth interest to trade over 24,575,650 whilst HNB.X reached a high of Rs.101.90 due to buying pressure. ACL also continued to witness accumulation and gained 3.74% to trade 370,630 shares. Retail activity witnessed mixed sentiments during the day as some caps saw profit taking during the day. Power sector caps which dragged interest of the retailers during the past couple of days witnessed selling pressure during the day and closed marginally down. Caps CLND,PAP and its warrants saw aggressive trading during the day and traded attractive volumes. CLND gained 6.55% and PAP gained 3.7% for the day. REEF.W0019 and CSF.W saw massive retail interest during the day and gained percentages such as 10.45 and 10.71% respective trading attractive quantities. Further, caps such as FLCH,BIL and CSF topped trading volumes whilst CFT emerged as the top gainer.
