Colombo shares on Friday ended the week on a positive note after witnessing considerable gains throughout the week, on the back of share trades across the board, analysts said.

The Colombo benchmark index, the All Share Price Index (ASPI) surpassed the 5,500 points mark after a period of more than four months to end the day at 5,496.85 points, gaining two per cent (107.93 points) over yesterday’s close, while the Milanka Price Index (MPI) ended the week at 5,093.36 points, climbing by 1.96per cent (98.04 points). The S&P SL 20 Index (S&P) rose by 1.63per cent (47.80 points) to close at 2,983.81 points.

Market turnover improved today to Rs 1.758 billion over a volume of 147 million shares. The top turnover generators for the day were Sampath Bank PLC , John Keells Holdings PLC , Lanka Orix Finance PLC, PC House PLC and Ceylinco Insurance PLC. These top five turnover generators contributed 38% to the total market turnover. (DEC)
