Only broker firms are loosing on holidays, no transactions for a day. Share prices can go up after holidays, many like to initiate new investments first thing in the New Year. Even if it is a working day nobody will come to work, who is going to come in between a long holiday in Nuwara Eliya, Jaffna, Pasi Kuda, Yala or Unawatuna. Relatives and friends often visit on these days. It is wise to make 15th an official holiday.

@ Menike,
Just take a 2011 calendar and count the holidays & post here pls......!

Next is you may be happy to have a long holiday but Economy wise its a v bad situation, I don't know how you and few more guys @ this forum going to understand it..., Usually when there are 3 or 4 holidays at a stretch, Commercial Banks do not comply with them & keep the Banking system running to minimize the Trading Difficulties & for Import Export transactions & they take that holiday on a separate day..that's the normal practice of Commercial Banks...but now form APRIL 13th to 17th 5 days as holidays & what will happen to the country's' Banking transactions & SL interbank connections with Global payments/clearings, TTs & LCs, ect ect...?

Again on 22nd Friday also a P & B holiday....! then only 4 days of Banking out of 12 days.... [13th to 24th]

Time is GOLD....!

Hi

http://www.cse.lk/270808/pdf/holidays_2011.pdf
in this holidays list there is only 19 days.
you have assume additionally 101 days as holidays (120 -19)

may be you are counting all the Saturdays and Sundays. But it is general for everywhere.

Anyway I don't think we would have to worry about these 20 days... or may be I don't understand your business context.

Menike.... I don't know from where on earth you have been from....In countries Like UAE, Oman, Saudi....[Gulf Countries] only Friday is considers as a holiday & they work on both Sat & Sundays as normal working day. There are many other countries do work on Saturdays as a normal working day...so before jumping into any argument just take time & study properly....

Next.. the calender which you have posted is not correct...May 9th or 19th [ i'm nt sure the date exactly] is declared as National War heroes Day since 2009 and have been P & B holiday....[it's not included in your calendar], then where is this April 15th Holiday...?

good you take a Holiday & study little about the Economics & Global affairs

Hi CSE Today,
I don't need to jump in to argument with you . But anyway I think, I need to reply to you Very Happy Very Happy
I don't know why do you get examples from these Gulf Countries... may be it is because of you have been from that part of the earth Very Happy
The majority of the world is having holidays @ week ends.

And also even in sri lanka, there are some crazy ppl who work on 365 days per year. But as a society the whole majority do not do that. because that is not sustainable for human body.

And also If you cant trust the given calender, you can not trust CSE. because that is the official announcement.
The April 15th not included in that calender, because it has not been planed when this calender was published.
