Recently, the Forum has been bombarded with threads re CLND - Colombo Land and Development Company. All you hear 24/7 is CLND CLND CLND ! i sometimes wonder whats so magical about this stock. i dont have anything against this company / stock, but the way some people talk about it, you can be forgiven to think this is the only "gem" on the CSE ! i too made some good money on this stock whilst converting warrants at Rs 3 (buying warrants around 7-10) and selling CLND around Rs 50 a few years back. However way you look at it, the fundamentals are weak. CLND is trading at 200 times its earnings, 3 times its Book Value and 80 times its Revenue and has Zero cash. Fair enough their seems to be some buzz on the 14 acres Pettah property and development prospects with the Liberty Plaza Complex, both leasehold properties. but they will need plenty cash to develop these properties through Debt, Rights Isuues or through Strategic Alliances. All these will further dilute value and shareholders will not have any intrinsic benefit in the intervening period. How are they going to generate huge profits to justify these handsome share prices ?
Perhaps the only reason to be excited about this stock is the names of the connected parties, Directors and Broker networks that promote it. and the bigger fool theory will play its part well in this case.
Make no mistake, this horse may run due to the greater fool theory. but for me, better & safer horses to back with better prospects for a good nights sleep.

This quotation from Warren Buffet is interesting in this CLND regard.

Beware when investing turns into speculating

"The line separating investment and speculation, which is never bright and clear, becomes blurred still further when most market participants have recently enjoyed triumphs. Nothing sedates rationality like large doses of effortless money. After a heady experience of that kind, normally sensible people drift into behavior akin to that of Cinderella at the ball. They know that overstaying the festivities that is, continuing to speculate in companies that have gigantic valuations relative to the cash they are likely to generate in the future will eventually bring on pumpkins and mice. But they nevertheless hate to miss a single minute of what is one helluva party. Therefore, the giddy participants all plan to leave just seconds before midnight. There’s a problem, though: They are dancing in a room in which the clocks have no hands."

Thank you for a very informative insight! It puts the share into proper perspective.

Most members of this forum seem to be traders, not investors who look at fundermentals.

Oh el professori has appeared quickly to defend his most valiant pitch. your 11 posts since 20th feb are almostly exclusively about CLND and CIFL, i see...
I think by now, the members of this forum know that i will be the first to admit my failures and losses in the past. If there are lessons to be learnt from my past failures and losses, i will be the first to admit them. I pointed out that this stock has made me money in the past. i bought it cheap under Rs 10 then mainly warrants. I do not have any shares in CLND and believe me i never wanted to buy it even around Rs 30 recently as i had better options. I have no greed, envy or regret on having missed out on a potential 40 % return on clnd in the past month, as i have even picked many 20 baggers in the past.i have learnt the lesson - you win some - you lose some, and hope mostly you win ! If you refer my past posts, i have never talked about this particular share for past year.

Always remember Prof - The Royal Flush will beat the Four Aces every time !

That's true.. But millionaires become paupers in no time buying high and not selling when it reaches a considerable high... Twisted Evil

All millionaire dreams will vanish and will have to settle for low due to greed Wink

Take, I cannot advice u to whether stay or get out. I'm really not a master when it comes to exit point to be honest with. With the speculation its got, I only targeted 25-25% from this. So I of course thought it had given me enuf and moved out today. As I said, my intention was not to keep this as an investment since I failed to see the magic behind this run..

I may be wrong.. So what u can do is, sell if it goes down or keep watchin where it hits next..

And i like your comment, "sell if it goes down or keep watchin where it hits next." and I will. tks.

CLND went down and rebound.. So anyone still holding will have to align the ASI movements to CLND movements.. When ASI was heading south, this might also head the same way Wink

Game between well known guys and the bank who are providing margin accounts. Expect some more rallies in the crap shares, if someone knows the exit end entry will survive in coming days.
