Thanks for the post Ranga

Some people in this forum strongly believe that CSE manage to attract more and more foreign funds everyday. Which is not true. They still tend to exit from this overheated market rather come in and lost.
Apart from one crossing from Mr Indra traders to a foreign fund there are not many significant crossings happened in recent past.

CSE is mainly driven by wealthy manipulators and small retailors with very high expectations, Not by fundamentals of companies.

Some believe that we do not need foreign funds and we can manage CSE by our own.
these are just silly words and you cannt be a patriot by saying these words.

Reduction in purchases and increase in sales, does it an indication of exit of foreigne players? and if that is the case, is there any relation between the above result and UN Report?

I am quite new to the CSE ... but from reading daily summaries from jan end to now I see a lot of foreign pullout ... maybe someone can give a cumulative foreign purchases vs sales from jan to date [.. p.s sorry i know all those bro's who are investors like to state facts to back up arguments .. i dont have the figures at hand ]

1. I am a newbie but i think that we do have good companies that do create wealth and hence justify investing in them.. i really dont know what the problem with the CSE is ( if there is any ?). Are other markets around the globe the same ?

2. I too think we need foreign investment as well as local. So why cant the CSE become more stable.. for an example if the illiquid's are making the market unreasonably volatile why not impose preemptive measures ?.. like a minimum liquidity level..

I am just sharing thoughts...as thanks to the helpful information by bro's in this forum.

Answers.

Net outfolow so far in 2011 is about Rs8 billions & this is on the top of last year net out flow of more than Rs 26 billions.
If I can remeber correctly major foreign investments so far ..
Ishara Silva sold some SAMP shares to a foreign fund & Uncle Harry sold his LHCL stake to an Indian company.

1. Obliviously there are some good counters at CSE. The only issue is most small investors have very high expectations. Most people at CSE know the taste of profits very well. Because 2010 was a phenomenal year at CSE. you didnt really want to know where to invest. anything( except few) should have given more than 40-50% return in less than 4-5 months. So some people are still expecting the same results in 2011.
In general foreign funds try to exit from emerging markets in 2011 and reinvest that money in matured western markets. This is the latest global trend.

2. This is Sri Lanka so anything is possible. Sri Lankan market PE value is around 18. Eventhough this is getting better still we are far away from attract new foreign funds. The other thing is most of the blue chip companies PE value is higher than the market PE value.
There are regulators at CSE. But an investor has to have self controlling ability.

If we've analysed the potential counters, do we need to rely on any foreign investment to buy wat we believe to be good?
Time to time various kinds of investors pull back from market.. DP sold of his stake in REEF and Imagewise bought.. so did the REEF go down? No.. then it got manipulated without DP even Wink

Wat I see is; its a good sign that foreign fund is eying on some companies, but totally on foreign buying/selling we can't judge the market..
Some may think market goes down looking at the foreign activities, that absurd thinking..
Now CSE is not like good old days.. there are some buzz words in the market these days, T+5 is one thing and truly it drives the sentiments.. u buy hoping an uptrend, then no movement or very less movements and ur settlement date is up so u sell even at a loss..
See.. hopes driven with greed, fear comes in middle, sadness - the aftermath drive the market more than anything..

I also exit hastily sometimes but for me there shud be another counter worth trying on..
