A packet of Nestlé Nespray vanilla milkshake purchased yesterday (March 15), from a Cargills outlet near Nelum Pokuna was spoilt even though the expiry date printed on the packet is July 24, 2014. The date of manufacture is January 25, 2014 and code number is 40250376YL.
The customer who purchased two packets has returned the packet with spoilt milk to the same outlet. He has also attempted to contact the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA). When contacted a few hours later, the manager of the outlet told The Nation they were yet to inform Nestle, although they will be keeping the packet with them. The manager went on to say that the packets need not be refrigerated, adding that it couldn’t have been caused due to faulty storage by Cargills.
According to the customer, he has spoken to a staff member of Nestlé and was informed she would get back to him. When contacted, an official from Nestlé Lanka (PLC) denied receiving a complaint about the spoilt milkshake. However, Nestle said they would look into the matter, first speaking with whoever made the complaint and then probing into the matter by testing the spoilt goods and determining the cause of spoilage.
