The final vote of 2015 budget is scheduled to be taken at 5.00 p.m. today (November 24) in Parliament.

The committee stage debate on budget 2015 commenced on November 03 and continued daily except for Sundays till the final vote today.

The second reading of the US$ 14 billion budget for next year passed on 1 November with a majority of 100 votes as 157 members of the parliament voted in favor and 57 opposed.

Main opposition United National Party (UNP), Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the Marxist party Democratic National Alliance (DNA) voted against the budget while the coalition partner Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) abstained.

The JHU, which quit the government last week, has decided to abstain from voting today at the third reading of the 2015 budget also.

The Media Spokesperson of the party Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe said the party has decided to remain independent in parliament.

Whether the budget can or can't be defeated is a different issue.

For EX- If I am in the opposition try to defeat the budget is the most craziest decision. Why there is no government after that.

So i will not be surprised if opposition vote in favour.

So MR will be more powerful than before. So budget will be passed. No doubt. If things are so bad MR will try to defeat the budget himself. People may come to that level to be in power.

But I don't think MR is that bad. Very Happy

Yes, market will recover in this week. But we can expect another drop on next month. But this will not remain same.

We cant say if MS selected market will fall down or if MR selected market fall down. 2015 is a good year for CSE.

The 2015 Budget was passed in Parliament a short while ago by a majority of 95 votes with 152 MPs voting for 57 against.

Former Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena and fellow Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) dissidents were not present today when the vote on the third reading of the budget took place.

The United National Party (UNP), Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and Democratic National Alliance (DNA) voted against the Budget while around 15 parliamentarians were reportedly absent during the vote.

Parliament on 1 November passed the second reading of the Appropriation Bill for year 2015 by a majority of 100 votes, with 157 MPs voting in favour and 57 against.

Members of the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) were absent during that vote.

The expected government expenditure for the year 2015 is Rs 1.812 trillion, around 17 per cent higher compared to the previous year’s expenditure.

The Appropriation Bill for the service of the financial year 2015 was presented in Parliament by the Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne on 26 September
