Timeline of a tragic accident
Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes has died in hospital, two days after he was struck on the head by a cricket ball while playing in a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Hughes was hit on the side of the head when he attempted to hook the bouncer, delivered by NSW paceman Sean Abbott on Tuesday.

While he seemed to compose himself, the former Test opener leant forward, put his hands on his knees and, after a few seconds, suddenly collapsed head-first on to the pitch.

"What happened is that the blow from the cricket ball damaged ... a major artery in the back of his head and that caused bleeding over the skull and prevented blood from going to the brain," Jones said.

Very sad indeed. He was a very good offside player & was very close to be selected to the national side again after some great performance at home.

Unfortunately the ball missed the helmet & struck on the side of the head. Shocked

I can remember him scoring a great century against us in the last ODI we played in Australia. Which won the game for them & the series tied 2-2.

Very sad indeed. Such a young promising player. May he Rest in Peace.
Cannot wonder why ICC is so hard on slow spinners for chucking when they allow half pitch pace bowling at killing speeds. Worst the speedsters get for creating risk to players is a no ball while slow spinners are banned.
Again let us not criticise cricketers playing for money when the risk they take are so high.
