The major restructuring of the company will include moving the Colombo factory to Badalgama. While the other factories in Digana, Ambewela are being modernized at present. The refurbishments of the Polonnaruwa factory have been completed. Around fifty five thousand bottles per day is the present capacity of the Colombo Plant now, which will be increased to 60,000, MILCO Chairman Sunimal Senaratne, told Ceylon FT.
He further said that the relocation of the Colombo factory will take around 2 years to complete. "This will also enable us to widen our product range. It will also help us to meet the highest standards required by the industry, comfortably.
After the refurbishment is complete, the powdered milk capacity will be increased by three fold. Presently, we collect 210,000 litres of fresh milk a day of which 110,000 litres go for the conversion into powdered milk, he said.
While the bottling will top off at around sixty thousand per day. The present market share for the powdered milk is around 8 percent will we enjoy 100 percent of the sterilized bottled milk market, he said
Finally he said, our customers are very taste conscious. The 'Chocolate Milk' bottle has a unique taste due to the process we use when bottling. This product is the market leader in it's' category. When all our facilities modernized we will be able to give the public a wider range and higher quality products.
