LIOC, which already has plans of expanding its bunkering business to compete with the Indian bunkering companies who offer extremely low prices, now has the inducement by the government to go forward with even more sophisticated deep sea bunkering, via Hambantota port. Although the planned development in infrastructure is considered to improve the bitumen top line of LIOC, on the other hand, liberalization of bitumen market will create more competition, dragging LIOC’s margins down. Lubricant market, on the other hand, already consists of 13 players, and liberalizing would hurt the share of LIOC, who currently enjoys the second highest market share....
