The plane flew South instead of North to Kuala Lumpur
Flight No. MH 132 , from Auckland, New Zealand to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Departed Auckland, on Christmas day at 2.23 a.m. and after 8 minutes of flying the pilot realized it was heading South instead of flying towards Malaysia .
Pilot noticed flight MH132 was going in the wrong direction and called the controllers and asked why he was heading towards the Southern Ocean, then steered it back to the route. Passengers were unaware of it. They landed safely in KL with 40 mins delay.
Later they found there were two different flight paths entered in planes computer and it was following southern route.
The mix hap is being investigated.
According to the Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) 's statement , MH132 was given the latest flight plan by the airlines' operations dispatch centre (ODC) whilst Auckland's Air Traffic Control (ATC) was inadvertently, given an earlier flight plan.
However, according to the airlines, both routes were following an approved flight path and the aircraft had sufficient fuel for both routes.
