At the moment the market is really in a very bad situation. Manipulators are still earning huge money by misleading poor retailers and retailers are also acting as blind followers.
So i think it would be very important for all the members that if each and every forum member could bring out best shares with reasonable reasons. Then further discussion will help to select best shares from mentioned ones so i think this would be helpful to survive in the market in the long run.
I identified following as good shares to invest
1. RICH - Because RICH has revealed that their future investments in Education and leisure and their current plantation heavy subsidiaries may act well in the future with fertilizer subsidy and higher rubber prices. Wage issue would not be a huge fact untill rubber prices won't drop down Rs400 per kg. RICH is also the most undervalued share in the diversified sector with a PER of 14. EPF also bought 23 million shares of RICH so which means they are also confident about RICH's future
2. LFIN - LFIN is also a fundamentally strong share. The company accepts deposits, including fixed deposits and certificates of deposit; and offers leasing solutions for a range of vehicles/equipment, including private and commercial vehicles, machinery and many other financial services. When you compare this with CFIN you will see that this is really undervalued eventhough CFIN is a bit overvalued share at the moment. Their business is also going nicely
3. COCO - Coco lanka through its subsidiaries, engages in the plantation, manufacture, and marketing of agriculture products in Sri Lanka mainly coconut. So what do you think about coconut prices and coconut products. Prices would really go up with population increase and land degradation. You may have seen how coconut price went up in the recent past. So in the future the coconut prices would further go up. So coco lanka would be a good selection as it is currently an undervalued share.
4. RAL - Renuka agri also engages in coconut industry,The company offers coconut milk, coconut cream, coconut milk powder, cream powder, and granulated de-fatted coconut. It provides its products under the Renuka, Cocomi, and Renu Organic brand names
5. RCL - Company manufacture and marketing of floor and wall tiles in Sri Lanka and internationally,as well as provides tile care services; and offers laying materials, such as technokolla, adhesives, and grouts. The company offers its products under the Rocell and Rocell Bathware brand names. The future demand for tiles will further go up and their profit would be good in coming years. RCL is Currently being traded at adiscounted price

NEM,
Did you also take into accoount the cost of production when coconuts prices go up for RAL, COCO? This is a 2 sided problem. BTW COCO is also a investment trust in a way.

Yes that is true...but i would like to know more about production cost.. I didn't consider the production cost as a big issue because i think prices of coconut products should also go up with coconut price.
But yes this is a two sided problem it will be worth to know further more about this issue
Thx

If you look at the history of shares you will see some of them are not at a low although you the overall market is down. Sooner or later they will touch the low again. They always does. So if you're 'investing' not short term trading, they are not the best time to buy.

Talking about long term investments, I went through the annual report of Vallibel Power today in which they state the share price in each year..

In 2006/07 it was 1.80 Rs and every year there is a gradual increase in the share price and after 4 odd years, today it is 10.30.. Just imagine a person who bought 1 million shares in 2006, he would have 10 million today.. In less than 5 years..

If you really have the hoding power and the willingness to hold any fundamental stock, you can be a real gainer rather than losing your money going after 'bullshit' stocks..

This is just what I feel.. Buy any fundamentaly strong share and hold it for a while.. Keep monitoring but do not panic if it has small downs.. After some time, you can have a lot of profit which could be comparatively higher than the short term gains.. And it is safe after all.. I remember one gentleman asking for advice to invest in some long term shares for his kid. This could be a safer and better way to make the best out of CSE..

Previous performance is not an indicator what will happen in the future. The so called fundamentally strong shares rose abnormally in 2010 and they're still abnormally high. So the company performance has to catch up with the price first before any growth.

A lot of things can happen in the future, and as duke said, past performance is not an indicator of what will happen in the future. If you want to be safe long-term, invest in diversified groups or safe sectors. One of my picks for solid growth over the next few quarters are the following:

ABAN
BRWN
CDB
LCEY

There will be many more like it, but the above is what I am watching.

Please note that this is not a recommendation to buy any of the above mentioned shares. Do your own research before buying or selling.

Agreed for some of us who atleast think of holing for more than 1 year there are plenty of bargains still. BFI and manufacturing, and constructions sectors are some of them. Contrary to some who dislike poultry shares, the current prices of such share are also attractive as they have dropped considerably now. Identifying the leader of each sector is also a good exercise.

I do not this this is a kind of a promotion. NEM didn't say xxx share will up to yyy price on this day. I have seen some topics they predict the expected price without giving any valid reason (either fundamentally or technically). But NEM has given the reason why he is invested or willing to invest those companies. Yes, it will be a promotion once he repeat the same story again and again. NEM continue your good work. +Rep from me

Yes RICH made a big mistake by going for 1 to 15 share spilt. This increased liquidity too much. SO this share is slow moving now. But RICH is a diversified blue chip trading a very low values now.
