She says this is evident when looking at the number of active CDS accounts in the CSE despite the opening of over a half a million CDS accounts up to June, 2011.
Speaking at a recent workshop held on Capital Market development, Sugathadasa disclosed that, only 30,000 CDS accounts are engaged in trading activities monthly which the SEC considers as active accounts.
According to Sugathadasa there are nearly 600,000 CDS accounts opened in the CSE.
She says the non active account shows the potential the market has to expand its business activities.
Financial status of certain finance firms
Speaking further Sugathadasa revealed that the financial status of certain finance companies who have applied seeking for a listing under the Central Bank directions has not been stable, at least in the recent past.
She says the commission has advised the SEC Secretariat to amend the listing rules to look into the above issues as the present listing requirements do not cover certain important aspects of a company, where the long term stability is concerned
