Do US have money to lend us? All US treasury bills purchased by China in their last resession. So China with us don't worry. If China dispose US T.bills they will be vanished. Very Happy

our retailers may panic but the reality is that nowadays we don't get much aid from uncle sam anyway (china is our biggest donor now).
the US is the largest debtor nation in the world and currently are negotiating within their political leadership to avoid a debt default (http://www.voanews.com/english/news/Obama-Democratic-Lawmakers-Meet-on-Debt-125986044.html), very soon we may need to give aid to uncle sam
barring aid does give a bad signal but the two cows met in chennai recently and the braying wasn't as bad as expected (http://www.dailymirror.lk/news/12555-clintons-visit-a-sigh-of-relief-from-sl.html)a
also note that while aid may be barred we can still raise debt from US investors (our soverign bond was over subscribed 7 times and most of that would have come from the West- as long as we show they a good yield they'll keep lending).

More about US economy:

US is a dead ass, and begging behind china and middle-east. News Papers like DM is still trying to suppress our emerging economy with ulterior motives. In the same time, Financial crooks are collecting at a bargain price. Then, suddenly, they publish good news while selling those shares at a higher price.
Therefore, Retailers need to have a analytic mind always.
I fully agree with few comments here.

Daily Mirror, Vijaya news papers have been publishing everybody's views. There were several articles from the small investors side in Sunday Times in the recent times. Something other media did not do.

I think in my opinion we need to look at the broader picture. US economy is the world largest economy and USD is one of the major trading currencies in the world. It’s true the Sri Lanka sovereign bond was oversubscribed 7 time reason being as it was issued in USD. US is the second largest importer of Sri Lankan garments like Woven Apparel, Knit Apparel and Rubber, Precious Stones (sapphires), and Spices and Tea are other exports from Sri Lankan to US. Down fall of the US is going to impact the whole world and thus impacting Sri Lanka too. Also there is US GSP that might affect the above sectors. Today the world has become a global village so no longer a country can say that it could survive without other countries. Today we are in an era of interdependency.

We should not forget China depends on US and US depends on China for trade.

Sri Lanka should not be dependent on one country it can have adverse effects in the future.

Considering the current situation with regard to US debt crisis, US is a bankrupt country. I think it is kind of a cost saving for them by restricting aid to us.

I think they are jealous too, since China and India is rising and we are following them rather than following US and bankrupt Euro zone.

They said that they are against giving loans to Sri Lanka in IMF and World Bank as well. However we got the IMF loan and theres nothing USA could do about it. We didn't ask for loans from them anyway.
