If you are new, I would like to share my way of doing it.

Have these accounts in an Excel sheet. And have a defined performance evaluation period like 6 months or one year.

1.Cash/Margin account-debit what ever amount you introduce to the market. Credit what ever you withdraw.

2. Investment account-This contains all purchases and disposals at the transaction value.

4. Gain/Loss account- Debit cost of sales and credit net sales value, account will automatically find the gain or loss. You can track the dividends by crediting here and debiting to cash.

5. Capital account-Credit what ever amount you introduce to the market.Debit what ever you withdraw

6.Trial balance will provide you the picture of your business.

If you are not an accounting guy, let me give your email I would forward the excel sheet.

Just keep it simple;

1st Step : Profit = (Selling Price*Qty - Commission Paid) - (Buying Price*Qty + Commission Paid)
2nd Step : Per Annum return = (Profit / No: of days the investment is held)*365

In general if the p.a return is less than 9% I consider that investment as a failure since it's less risky to invest in a FD.

Just keep it simple;

Lets say if I have 1000 shares taht I brought in different price levels, And I sold 500, How can I know the actual buying price??

Lets say if I have 1000 shares taht I brought in different price levels, And I sold 500, How can I know the actual buying price??

eg :

LGL - 100@38 = 3,800
- 100@40 = 4,000
- 800@42 = 33,600

Therefore your weight average buying price will be - (3,800 + 4,000 + 33,600) / 1000 = 41.4
So at the end of the day you have purchased LGL 1,000 @ 41.40
Total Cost = (1,000*41.40*1.0112)
