The 37 underperforming or underutilizing ventures acquired by the government under ‘The revival of underperforming and underutilizing government assets’ Bill are up for re –lease to the previous owners or any other investor who comes up with a better corporate plan, the government said today.

The cabinet spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella addressing the weekly cabinet news briefing at the Information Department Auditorium said today the government’s intention was to revive those ventures and make them profit making commercial entities while contributing to the economy and protecting the rights of the employees.

“The government is ready to give priority and assess positively the corporate / management plans submitted by those who managed the loss making ventures by the time of the acquisition on November 9th following the debate in Parliament,” Minister Rambukwella said.

Government is going reverse manner. They should have given a opportunity to underperforming companies prior to the bill.Government does not use correct methodology. They should thoroughly reconsider the capabilities of their advicers.

Govt has already lost the investors confidence and they have put a very big effort to gain the it again, which they cannot get just having press meetings. What's assurance it will not happen again?

I would like ask, what's the benefit govt has achieved by expropriating those companies. We should not blame the govt, but we should blame the voters. We have given over confidence to the govt. We have a weak opposition ( or no opposition).

The need of the hour is to have technocrats to run as the representatives had been failing the masses in great fashion.
