Interest on index heavyweight JKH is holding the Milanka index up, said brokers. The share is marginally up 20 cents at Rs 174.00 levels, but on thin trade, as only 155,000 shares were traded by mid day.
Among the few active stocks today is CIC non-voting, up Rs 2.00 at Rs 80.90, Ceylon Leather, up Rs 4.90 at Rs 79.90, Asian Alliance up Rs 3.40 at Rs 197.70 and Royal Ceramics up 30 cents at Rs 140.00, however, all on very thin volumes.
Analysts said uncertainty and fear created by the imposition of an expropriation bill still prevail in the market, while foreign selling is on the rise.
No crossings were recorded by mid day.
The All Share Price Index (ASI) by mid day is down 0.10 percent (6.09 points) at 6,134.43 while the Milanka which tracks the 25 most liquid shares on the bourse is up 0.33 percent (17.56 points) at 5,367.10.
Only 18,800 shares were traded by mid day generating a turnover of 228,061 million rupees.
JKH tops turnover with Rs 27.1 mn followed by Blue Diamonds non-voting which pumped in Rs 21.4 mn. Cargills Ceylon is next in line with Rs 20.3 mn.
Volume is lead by Blue Diamonds non-voting which saw 5.4 million shares trade followed by SMB Leasing warrants 2016 of which 3.3 million got traded. Blue Diamonds voting also saw 1.8 million shares trade.
Top gainers so far are Asha Central up 15.40 percent, Guardian up 15 percent, and Shaw Wallace up 12.7 percent.
