Someone else had this problem. Not sure Directfn is compatible with Win8 ( so much for backward compatibility)
Anyway, an option is to install VMWare or something like that and run DirectFn on top Win 7 or Vista.

You have 2 options.
1. You can install virtual machine on Win 8 and install win 7/xp/vista on it. ( You should have at least 4GB RAM, Enough HDD space at least 25 GB)
2. Uninstall WIN 8 and install earlier version of windows.
My broker said that sometime DirectFn TWS may be updated to windows 8 compatibility version end of December 2012
