The Auditor General said that Rs. 800 million worth of Mahapola transactions were unacceptable in the absence of documentary evidence.
He had made these observations in the Audit report of the Fund for 2010.
He had also said that there had been over Rs. 760 million which has been claimed to have been disbursed on Mahapola Scholarships but he had not received the lists of the beneficiaries. He also said that the Rs. 88 million, which had been received by the Fund, from the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, had also not been recorded in the financial statements which had been sent for audit. In another instance, the vehicle log book of a Rs. 1.1 million pick up truck had also not been provided for audit.
