Jul 10, 2012 (LBT) - Indices continued to slide negatively ending the day’s trading in red, despite some strategic deals managing to break the lethargy witnessed in the market helping post a decent turnover. Retailer participation did not account for much during the days trading causing some doubt over the direction of the market. The benchmark index shed 19.46 points to close at 4,905 whilst the more liquid MPI shed 22.31 points to close at 4,360. Total turnover for the day was over 914mn. (Approximately USD 6.7 million) Total volume traded was 23.1K.

There were 3 block trades during the day which collectively amounted to 65% of the day’s turnover. Leisure sector cap PALM emerged as the top contributor for the day contributing over 348mn. The counter saw a block of 2,088,240 shares change hands at Rs.167. The transaction is presumed to be a transfer of shares. Banking & Finance sector heavyweight HNB.X was the 2nd largest contributor towards the day’s tally as it witnessed 2 blocks totaling 2,305,315 shares change hands at Rs.93. The counter also witnessed high net worth interest during the day and closed at Rs.92.80 gaining 3.11% for the day.

Diversified conglomerate SPEN also witnessed a block trade where 300,000 shares changed hands at Rs.115. The counter also pumped in a healthy 56mn towards the turnover and closed at Rs.114.90 gaining 1.5% for the day. Deals for also seen on caps PCHH and PCP on the normal trading board as the counters contributed close to 120mn.

Market heavyweight JKH and Index heavy CARS also traded attractive volumes during the day. Further, Institutional interest was seen on caps NEST,KGAL and LOLC. Retail activity was rather limited once again as retail favourite caps did not contribute material amounts for the day. Some activity was seen on penny stocks PAP,BERU and MULL as they traded attractive retail volumes. PAP gained 4.17% to close at Rs.2.40 whilst BERU closed at Rs.3 shedding 6.25%. Further, retail volumes were topped by CSD,SFS and MULL whilst SEMB.X emerged as the top gainer on thin trade.
