The Investment Promotion Ministry says that under the Strategy Development Act, a new gazette notification will be put forward in the future for providing tax relief for constructing a hotel complex without CASINO.
Strategy Development Ministry Secretary M. M. C. Ferdinandu told our news team that accordingly tax relief would accrue to the hotel project proposed to be constructed at the D. R. Wijewardhana Mawatha in Colombo under a 400 million US dollar investment.
Cabinet approval was given recently to a luxury hotel project with gambling betting facilities belonging to the Crown Casino Group of James Packer of Australian nationality.
Accordingly the gazette notification relevant to it under the Strategy Development Act was scheduled to be debated in parliament last Thursday and Friday.
Several parties representing the Government and Opposition parties too expressed their objection to some clauses pertaining to Casino.
In addition civil organizations and religious leaders too protested against taking up the relevant gazette notification for debate.
However the debate on the relevant gazette notification was postponed on consideration of opinions expressed at discussions held at a meeting of party leaders held with the President at the chair.
However, speaking to our news team Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena stated that the gazette notice will be presented to parliament after it has been amended.
