It is mainly because of Kenyan tea prices.  Even in Pakistan tea prices has gone up strongly as they mainly import from Kenya.

Sri-Lankan low grown tea fell to their lowest levels in three years at recent auctions. There is some support for quality UVA tea and other quality tea. Among different type of tea, Western tea is fetching averages prices of around Rs.400. There could be some silver lining for Sri-Lankan tea in the second half of this year and in 2016.We have to wait and see. Will high grown tea and high quality western tea fetch higher prices than other tea varieties in the coming months?

ELPL is the most undervalued stock no one talking about. Look at there financials, it's better than all the other plantation stocks.
I don't why people ar promoting shares like KOTA, HVA, WATA when there're shares like ELPL.

ELPL is one of the companies which made some profit during difficult period in their industry (last quarter). Other companies which made some profits during last quarter are MPRH and TPL. It is time to do some home work on their value and future prospects.  When they start to make super profits they will have more value. Today’s loss making companies will become tomorrow’s profit making companies. Remember tea prices will not stay at the same place for ever. Following three companies make some of the high quality best tea in the world.

During last quarter

EPS

ELPL      0.71
MPRH    1.26
TPL        0.41

Net asset per share

ELPL   44.14
MPRH 47.08
TPL    69.44

considering the share prices. if HVA turns around given the share price now (around 8.80 to 9.0)
and its share history and the level of volatility I think even from the first quarter they make profits, there will be a run of at least Rs 2/-.
addition to the manipulation runs which comes from time to time.
I am still wondering about those 3 million share deal of 1 million each.
nobody seems to know yet!!!!
there is something going down on HVA and I am collecting for a big swing.

HVA is kind of momentum stock to me. It could have rally in this bull market. We will wait and see.

Valuepick you have to understand that when tea prices rebound ELPL is going to make huge profits. 73% revenue of ELPL comes tea, all there profits fr the first qtr came from plam. When tea prices rebounds ELPL is going to make huge profits. Net assets per share is double the market price. P/E ratio is 7.7times when plantation sector P/E ratio is above 15.
I agree that MPRH has good valuation also but most of stocks in the plantation sector is very much overvalued.

Anjelo u buying a particular stock based on unknown buyer bought 4% of the company is stupid. If someone did a trade fr more than 20 to 30% of the company we can at least speculate something is happening with the company. Anjelo one yr back acuity was promoting HVA around 15-18 range to buy speculating loads of reason. Luckily I sold it a at loss around at 14 range, if I have kept it , I would have incurred a major loss.

Statement on annual report ELPL

Elpitiya Plantations ended up with an overall profit of Rs. 413 Mn, which is the highest overall profit amongst the Regional Plantation Companies (RPCs) for this financial year and for the Calendar Year 2014. These profits underline the relentless pursuit of diversification strategies adopted by the Company several years ago, which no doubt has contributed towards the consolidation of the Company.

Our Company has been built on a foundation of Six Pillars revolving round Tea, Rubber, Palm Oil, Hydro Power, Tea exports and Commercial Forestry. Our strategy has been to break loose from the commodity trap and place the Company on a platform that does not depend on weather and fluctuating commodity prices, thereby building a truly diversified Business model.

Up coming projects

On the Hydro power front EPP has contributed 4,460 kW of hydropower generation capacity to Sri Lanka's national grid, feeding approximately 14.4 GWh of green energy during the financial year 2014/15. There are 04 more hydropower projects in the pipeline having a total capacity of 2,600 kW to be developed as 100% grid connected power projects in coming years, whilst also searching for other sources of renewable energy projects such as Wind, Solar, and Biogas. We have currently initiated discussions for a biogas generation project with a company which will be powered with POME [Palm Oil Mill Effluent].

Best managed plantation company in the sector, well diversified n aggressively pursuing more ventures.

Dear Jayathu,
sorry if you made a loss on your investment,
but it was your decision to buy not mine :-)
I was predicting at that time according to past volatilities of the market.
the time you were saying I think they were making profits and gave a 20 cent dividend as well.
given that fact, then it was possible.
they have done very well this year.
loss loss have come down from 85 laks (2014) to 16 laks for (2015) 3 months ended.
with the rising tea prices surely they will breakeven or make a small profit this year.
as soon as they show positive figures,
surely the investors would be more attracted.
also as I told , the manipulation factor is already there.
if you have followed this,
there was a online byer for 1 million shares as well.
he came upto Rs9.90 level as well.
so we can assume,he is planning for something more than 10 after this collection.
"Liyala thiyaganna ada kiuwa kiyala :-)  "

I know it was my decision to buy crap share like HVA those days n I made a small loss. Nowadays I know hw to value companies on my own n don't get sucked in to promoters advice. By looking at the current financial status HVA still doesn't have much upside like some other plantation companies.
If tea prices rebounds n considering there financial performance last few yrs company upside ranking goes as follows;
ELPL
MPRH
TPL
WATA
