Guys,
Please look at the below analysis. It is known fact that commercial banking sector was one of the sectors hit hard by the recent market decline but interestingly they are rebouncing very strong. And I can see few counters who have still lagging behind but very soon they will catch up with others.
04-Jan-16Change09-Mar-16Change12-Apr-16Margin to reach 4th Jan level
ASPI     6,867.6 -14.6%       5,862.4 8.4%       6,353.2 8.1%
COMB N139.0-15.8%117.114.9%134.53.3%
COMB X123.0-16.9%102.210.6%113.08.8%
HNB210.6-10.5%188.48.8%204.92.8%
NTB87.0-13.8%75.04.0%78.011.5%
SAMP250.0-15.2%212.17.2%227.49.9%
SYB N94.5-15.3%80.015.0%92.02.7%
SEYB X72.5-18.2%59.317.7%69.83.9%
NDB190.0-20.9%150.220.6%181.14.9%
PABC27.0-16.7%22.511.1%25.08.0%
UBC20.4-27.5%14.818.2%17.516.6%
DFCC168.1-19.1%136.04.6%142.318.1%
Virtually all banks decline more than the ASPI till 9th March but since then Commercial, Seylan, NDB, PABC and UBC have outperformed the ASPI growth. Yet NTB, Sampath & DFCC lagging behind. If we compare current ASPI with year beginning ASPI huge potential exist with COMB-X, NTB,Sampath, UBC and DFCC. Out of which I strongly recommend you to look at DFCC, UBC and Sampath. You will be amassed by end of April. Suggest you to do further analysis on this. Home work in the vacation.
Very Happy

Hi EC, thanks for the analysis. HNB X which was at 180 on 4th Jan is at 177 on 12th Apr. DFCC and NDB went up and came down drastically after the govt.'s stupid merger/ no merger policy. Though there is room for DFCC to move up ......
DFCC changed from a corp into a Bank and also they changed from a March to a December company. This time they didn't pay a decent dividend. Interesting way to analyse shares for a short term scenario. Thanks

SEYB is driven fast followed by HNB & COMB in considering the margin to reach January 4th level. It seems that considerable amount of outflow from foreigners pushed down the share price of SAMP. Nevertheless even after dividend & script dividend, demand pressure for SAMP is slowly growing up. Also, usual trading pattern & profit making of retail investors decelerate its ascension. Due to long holidays queued in, April may not support SAMP & the rest to rise much but surely in the month of May. Appreciate for your substantive analysis.
