Lengthy discussions were held regarding the two Gazettes in the previous Cabinet meeting and it was then decided to come to a final conclusion regarding the matter considering viewpoints of other allied parties in the Govt, at today's Cabinet meeting.
However, Secretary of the investment promotions ministry, M.M.C. Ferdinando said that another Gazette on giving tax relief for a luxury hotel complex constructed without Casinos, will be presented to the Cabinet in the future.
He said that it would take about 2 months to table the new Gazette for a parliamentary debate.
Accordingly, the first Gazette regarding the matter will be published for the public viewing and after considering public suggestions the 2nd Gazette will be produced at the Cabinet, followed by a 3rd Gazette which will be tabled for the Parliamentary approved with the amendments added by the Cabinet, the Ministry secretary said.
The main reason for the "untimely delay" of the "Casino Act" is the strong objections that has been raised by some of the Govt allies against it.
A senior minister said that if the Govt proceeds with the Casino business ignoring the allied objections, then it would even create a crack inside the Govt.
